Just a few days later, Dylan had completely contradicted himself, and the blowback was undeniable. 

He’d blocked every possible way back for himself and now that he wanted to turn things around, it wasn’t so simple. 

Complaints were one thing, but Desmond still couldn’t help feeling sorry for him. Snapping a quick photo, he sent it to Diana, then followed up with a call. 

“Miss Diana, I know you’re upset about being deceived, and you’re right to be angry. But that terrible idea was my fault, not his. Mr. Wright didn’t even know about it at first I only told him after you were already on your way to the airport. 

“He didn’t have much choice at that point. But the truth is, he really does want to be with Mrs. Wright…” 

Desmond pleaded Dylan’s case with such fervor that his throat was dry by the time he finished. But on the other end of the line, Diana’s voice remained calm, almost indifferent. 

“If he knew this would happen, then why make those mistakes in the first place?” 

“I mean, you’re not wrong, “Desmond admitted with a sigh. “But he’s your brother. Don’t you feel the least bit sorry for him? Especially now, when he’s like this? 

“You didn’t see it–today, Elliot completely outmaneuvered him, and Mrs. Wright didn’t hold back either. Now he’s sitting by the window, sighing over and over. It’s honestly 

heartbreaking to watch.” 

“Of course, I feel bad for him,” Diana said. “But people who invite trouble on themselves have only themselves to blame! Like I said–if he’d known it would come to this, why act the way he did before?” 

Desmond was at a loss for words. “Do all women have hearts this cold?” 

Desmond felt like he’d done all he could. If even Diara, his own sister, wasn’t moved, what more could he possibly do? Dylan would just have to fend for himself. 

Still, for all his words, Desmond couldn’t bring himself to abandon Dylan completely. 

“Miss Diana, forgive me for saying this, but yes, Mr. Wright deserves some of this. But you know as well as I do–he kept his distance because he didn’t want to drag Mrs. Wright into his 

mess. 

“How many men can say they’d do the same? And have you thought about what might happen if he can’t handle this? People break under the weight of love all the time. 

“The strong ones might pull through, but the weak… Well, who knows? And if something does

Desmond’s words hit a nerve. Diana couldn’t ignore the possibility, no matter how much she wanted to. 

As Desmond had said, Dylan was her brother. How could she not care? 

The only reason she hadn’t stepped in was to avoid putting Suzy in a difficult position. She had even told Suzy outright that she wouldn’t interfere in their relationship. 

And yet, the truth was, she’d already broken that promise. 

Worse, Elliot had seen through her intentions. That was why she hadn’t dared to face Suzy in recent days, not even to call her. 

After some thought, Diana decided to approach the problem from another angle–Elliot. 

If she could deal with him, her brother would no longer have a rival. Even if Suzy still didn’t agree to reconcile, at least Dylan wouldn’t feel so cornered. 

With that in mind, Diana started brainstorming ways to take Elliot down. 

Should she try threats? Or maybe bribery? 

Threats probably wouldn’t work. As a leader of a criminal organization, Elliot wasn’t someone who could be intimidated easily.
