“I didn’t,” Jamie said, her hands trembling uncontrollably.

Ben must think she had taken the money and squandered it, but in truth, not a cent of that ten million ever reached her hands. Even her child’s medical expenses were paid from the money she earned herself, bit by bit.

Of course, Ben didn’t believe her. “Enough with the act. I’m not some random guy you can fool with a few words. Don’t forget what I do for a living.”

As a lawyer, he had handled all kinds of cases, and he knew how to see through lies. But he didn’t realize that when it came to Jamie, his judgment was clouded by his emotions, and reason took a backseat.

“If you don’t believe me, then why even bother asking? No matter what I say, you’re just going to see me as a liar. What’s the point?” Jamie felt herself on the verge of breaking.

He pushed her up against the railing, his hand reaching to lift her skirt. “Since you don’t want to talk, then don’t. Not that there’s anything you could say that I want to hear.”

“No, you can’t!” Jamie tried to resist.

"Jack, I just remembered that you bought me a diamond ring before. Since neither of us wears it, why don’t we sell it too?” Winnie’s voice drifted down from upstairs.

Each word felt like a knife twisting in Jamie’s heart. Her sister was even willing to sell her own ring, just to gather money for her son’s treatment. And yet here she was, tangled up in this mess with her sister’s husband.

She felt like the worst kind of person.

“Sure, it’s yours to do with as you like,” Ben replied, completely unfazed.

After all, their marriage was nothing more than a facade. Without love, what was the point of holding onto a ring meant to symbolize it?
