A moment later, Chase answered Sam’s call. “School’s out?” 

“Mm–hmm…” 

“Wanna see your mom?” 

“Mm–hmm…” 

“Did you call her?” 

“No…” 

Chase chuckled.“Call her. She should have time to the phone today.” 

Sam’s eyes lit up.“Really?” 

“Yeah.” 

“Okay!” 

After hanging up, Sam quickly called Ashley.

Ashley paused when she saw the incoming call. She had promised to meet Sam once a month, but that time she played nurse when Sam was hospitalized, plus that meeting at Mr. Cook’s place shouldn’t count. So, it had been over a month since she last saw Sam. Thinking this, Ashley answered.“Sam…” 

Before she could finish, Sam exclaimed, “Mommy!” His voice was full of joy. 

Ashley froze, her hand hovering over the mouse. After two seconds, she came to her senses and softly said, “Yes, school’s out?” “Yup!” Sam happily said, “Mommy, where are you? I wanted to call earlier, but I was afraid I’d disth you. Then Dad told me you’d definitely have time to answer my call, so… Mommy, are you coming home?” 

“No…” 

Ashley paused. “I’m still at the office. I’ll be at your great–grandmother’s house later. Do you want “Wherever you go, I go!”

“Okay.” Ashley added, “Go to your great–grandmother’s first. Mommy will be there later.” 

“Okay!”

Ashley left the office and went to Amanda’s after finishing her work. Before she even entered the house, Sam heard the car and ran out, throwing himself into her arms.“Mommy!” 

“Mm–hmm,” Ashley hugged him. Amanda saw her and smiled.“Dinner’s ready. Come in.”
