Neither Zark nor Gabriel had broken the unspoken tension. 

Ashley and Tim were talking, so they didn’t notice the silent battle of glances between Zark and Gabriel. Ashley was a bit hungry, so she excused herself from the group and headed for the buffet. Gabriel followed close behind, smoothly striking up a conversation.

Ethan was also at the buffet. Seeing this, he froze mid–step. A sharp “Damn!” escaped his lips before he turned back to Chase and Tanya.“That Gabriel guy,” he whispered, “I think he’s falling for Ashley. The way he’s looking at her… I get it.” 

Chase glanced over and saw Ashley and Gabriel talking. Gabriel’s gaze was soft and intense, as if he were looking at the love of his life. He even gently took the empty glass from Ashley’s hand, placed it aside, and then got a cake from a higher shelf to her. 

Chase’s eyebrows rose in interest at the scene of attentive courtship. 

Tanya was also looking at them. Gabriel acted so sweet that anyone unaware of the truth would believe he was crazy about Ashley.

Chase took a sip of his drink.“He’s busy. I can talk to him later.” 

A partnership between Sterling Corp and Eternal would inevitably increase the frequency of encounters between Ashley and Chase. Most women would try to sabotage such a deal to prevent any lingering feelings between them. But for Tanya…
