Chapter9 

In the beginning, Sam missed her terribly and they talked constantly. But as time passed, and her visits lessened, his tone shifted from loving to indifferent. 

The alarm was unnecessary now. She just couldn’t cancel it. 

A wry smile touched her lips. After thinking for a while, she canceled the alarm, turned off her phone, and went back to sleep. 

On the other side, Chase and Sam had almost finished breakfast. Chase knew Ashley would call hem every morning, but he never took it to heart. He noticed there was no phone call today, bus didn’t dwell on it. He just headed upstairs to change. 

Sam had felt his mother was becoming increasingly bothersome; he wanted to avoid talking to her. Assuming she was too busy to call, he grabbed his basketball and dashed out Maria followed.“Sam, it’s sunny outside, why don’t you go out later?” 

He ignored her and headed towards the court. He’d gotten a break from his mother’s calls, he didn’t want to be “lectured” again. 

Ashley slept soundly. When she woke, she went to the office. She was working for Chase. Now, with the divorce, she no longer had a reason to stay. She gave her resignation letter to Alex
