Chapter 102
Kaia's POV
The four of us agreed to go to the city and Kieran made sure Edward and Dylan went with us but not after giving them several warnings to keep us safe. I'm certain he was letting us go because he wanted to make up the incident with his parents and even it was needed, it was very much appreciated.
Ryder sulked that he wanted to be the one to go instead of Dylan but he changed his mind when Kieran glared and the memory of the last time we went together filled my head. And he definitely wasn't going because he wanted to keep us safe or anything, Allie still hasn't given him the chance to talk.
It was no surprise when a few hours into the shopping, I was tired. But Nessa was having fun so it was worth it. The gloomy expression was long gone and a permanent smile was in its stead.
“Which girl gets tired of shopping? Don't you guys survive on that?" Dylan asked, a bit of teasing in his voice.
I rolled my eyes, “tell that to my legs that feels like they want to fall off."
He just laughed, turning his head back to the girls who were making Nessa try on almost all the dresses in the store. His expression faltered a bit before it came back up.
“What's going on?" I asked him.
A sigh left his lips, “I'm going back to the Pack.” He replied, his voice barely above a whisper and I shot up from where I was sitting beside him. A frown appearing on my face.
“Why?” I asked, unintentionally raising my voice, causing the girls to turn to me. “Is Kieran making you leave?" I asked.
I was certain both of them had gotten over the initial awkwardness his presence caused and they were fine being around each other.
He shook his head, “I'm the Beta of the Pack, Kaia. I have an obligation to them and Aiden and I've been gone a long time." He explained. And as much as I got his point, I didn't want him to leave.
“Can you just stay here? What about Allie?"
“I haven't told her yet…I'm going to." He said. “The event with the Alphas is coming up and I know Aiden is already throwing a tantrum at my absence."
“Are you going to come back?"
There was a pause, “I can't decide right now." He replied, biting his lips.
I could already see Allie being upset when she finds out he was leaving. It was the way we all chose to forget that he wasn't an actual member of the Pack.
“If you decide to come back, you know you're welcome right?" I told him and he nodded just as the girls approached us, carrying more bags than I cared to count.
Allie's eyes met mine and a light frown appeared on her face but I pretended not to notice it, giving her a smile.
Edward collected the bags from them, going in front of us as we made our way towards the exit. They'd also decided to call it a day. We got food on our way out which we ate on the way home, laughing and talking about things we found funny. It was safe to say that this was one of the outings to the city that didn't end up with any tear jerking incident.
Once the car drove into the Pack, I said goodbye to Nessa who skipped away, her bags dangling from her hands. Then I went to Kieran's office after dumping the things I got in the room.
For some reason, I was feeling more tired than usual and Lylah had chosen to retreat to the back of my mind, leaving me to deal with everything I was feeling. I guess she was still mad at me.
“Are you okay?" Kieran asked as soon as I entered. He stood up to meet me, bringing me into his arms.
I nodded, “just tired. But I think I'm gaining back my strength."
He cracked a smile and tightened his arms around me. Ryder and Caleb excused themselves, a relief look on their tired faces. I couldn't wait for all of this to be over and we go back to being just family and less crime solving.
“Something smells different about you." He pointed out, sniffing my neck.
"It's probably the food I ate on the way here. I wanted to keep a part of it for you…I don't know what happened.”
