Chapter 25

Kieran's POV

“So, you let a rogue slip through your fingers?" I asked, my voice low and even, but my eyes held frustration and disappointment. I stared at the faces of the two warriors that were supposed to be on patrol duty, shame etched on their faces.

“We're sorry, Alpha." They apologized, falling to their knees, head bent downward, unable to meet my gaze.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm the frustration I was feeling, “what are we looking at here?" I asked my Gamma, who wore a gloomy look.

His head jerked upward when he heard my question. I thought about addressing what was going on with him, but that could wait. I'd been relieved to hear that we were getting close to getting a lead on the mysterious smell, but now, it was back to square one.

“Caleb feels like he's close to finding something, but without it, there's nothing we can do." He replied.

A groan escaped my lips, if there was one thing I hated the most, it was being in the dark. The warriors were training hard everyday for something they weren't sure of. It wouldn't take time before the members got a whiff of what was going on and once they did, it'd spiral into something else.

“Tell him to make it snappy." I commanded.

Bowing lightly, he responded, "yes Alpha.”

Dismissing the warriors, I headed back to the pack house. King was being paranoid, and I didn't blame him. It was still uncertain if this was connected to what happened to Kaia and now, our only lead was gone.

“Let's go check on mate." King growled, pacing around impatiently.

Resisting the urge to roll my eyes, “We're getting to it." I replied.

Everything about her draws me in and even when I wasn't with her, the thought of what she was doing, how she was doing, if she was okay was the only thing I could think of.

On getting to our room, it was empty, which is rare. It was getting late and usually, she'd be reading a book or doing something around the room. But now, it looked exactly the way we left it that morning.

Concluding that taking care of the children took a longer time today, I made my way there but was met with another surprise.

“The Luna isn't here, Alpha. She has been gone for more than two hours now. She was with Beta Caleb's mate." Nessie, one of the ladies who helps out alongside Kaia said.

My brows furrowed in confusion, “if she isn't here, where could she be?" I thought.

As I went back to my office, my heart began to pound and my mind raced with the worst case scenarios. “What if something had happened to her?” I thought. And the fact that we still didn't have a clue about what the rogues wanted, or who they were made it worse.

I mind-linked Caleb, who came running immediately. He was panting heavily and looked like he hadn't had a proper sleep in a while.

“I’ve tried mind-linking Dani, but there's no response and I can't smell her anywhere.” He said, panic evident in his voice. "Y-you don't think…" he trailed off, unable to get the words out.

“No." I let out after a while, “I would've felt it if she was in danger."

“Alpha…" he started again.

“No…" I growled, pushing myself off my desk, “I'm going to find her."

I couldn't lose her when I only just found her. There has to be something I was missing you on. The last time she had a panic attack and the day at the mall, King and I could tell that something was off. But there was nothing today.

“Alpha-" Ryder's voice rang in my head.

“What is it?" I snapped at him.

“The Luna and-"

Without letting him finish, I bolted out of the office, following his smell with Caleb running closely behind me. His smell led me to the garage where I met him and two warriors trembling at his feet.

“They took Allie's car.”
