Chapter 35

Kaia's POV

As I ran, I heard Kieran's footsteps behind me, trying to catch up with me. He was calling out to me but I kept going until I got to the room. I slammed the door shut, the sound echoing through the room, resting my back against it, feeling the cool wood against my skin.

Tears pricked at the corner of my eyes as I bent down, wrapping my arms around my legs and burying my head in between my knees, I let the tears fall. I hated how easy it was for me to cry.

“A rogue? Goddess!" His mom had said, spitting the word ‘rogue’ with so much disgust. “You knew this and still went ahead to mark her?” She asked.

Kieran's voice sounded strained, “I don't care, she's mine and that's not going to change.”

The words played over and over in my head, maybe it'd hurt less if I heard it long enough

Kieran made an attempt to open the door but nothing happened since I already locked it. Even without seeing him, I knew he was running his hands through his hair.

“Bella, open the door please." He begged, his voice soft and gentle.

“Come on, Kaia." Lylah urged.

Another knock sounded on the door and this time, I pushed myself up, using the back of my hand to wipe my eyes before throwing the door open.

I was met with a very worried Kieran. Concern was etched on his face and as soon as the door was wide enough, he pulled me into his arms. I didn't waste time as I snuggled closer.

“I didn't mean to eavesdrop, I wanted to surprise you." My voice was barely above a whisper.

He nodded, caressing my hair. “You did surprise me." He said, kissing the top of my head and my body melted under his touch.

He led me towards the bed, cuddling me closer.

“Your mom, s-she…” I trailed off, unable to bring myself to even say it.

The fact that even without meeting me, she already disliked…hated me. And the reason wasn't far off. My background, or lack of it. The same reason Aiden didn't want me.

And I realized that it'd been a while I thought about them, my life at my former pack.

“We're so happy here," Lylah said and I couldn't agree less.

"My mom can be a lot, but she'll come around once she sees that I love you and there's nothing she could do about it.” He assured me and unlike other times when I feel at peace with his words, this was different.

I should've taken Allie seriously.

"You said she wasn't going to be here for another two days.”

He sighed, “She said she wanted to surprise me."

She succeeded, not only him. Mine was more like a shock though.
