Chapter 96

Kaia's POV

Maria remained frozen like a deer caught in the headlights, a few of my dresses in her hands and her eyes didn't leave mine. I stood there, trying to comprehend what was going on, but I couldn't go past the mess made.

“What happened to my things?" I asked, moving around, trying to pick my things, especially my underwear which were laying everywhere in the room.

“I-I didn't d-do it.” She stammered, "I was coming in to c-clean up but I met the mess." She explained.

At this point, I could already feel anger building up inside me. Maria had always been efficient, doing everything that was asked of her, and had never given me a reason to be suspicious of her. But considering the fact that the room was locked and if I needed her to clean up, I would have given her the key or something.

After having a long day, the last thing I wanted to deal with was this.

“Maria," I called calmly, “you want me to believe that you somehow managed to get into my locked room and met it like this?" I continued, crossing my arms in front of me, my eyes taking in the state of the room.

Her brows furrowed, "it was opened. You wanted me to clean the room.”

It was my turn to be confused, “I wanted you to? Did I tell you that after breakfast?" That was the only time I saw her before now.

I waited for her to continue, to give an explanation for what she meant. I could feel a headache forming, so I softly massaged my temple.

She shook her head, “you sent Ashley to me and she told me you left the door unlocked so I could work. She also said you wouldn't be back until later…that's why I was surprised to see you, Luna.” She finished, whispering the last part.

What she was saying probably made sense to her, but it only made her sound like she was making things up. But what exactly could she be looking for in the room?

“Who's Ashley?" I asked, “and if I needed something done in the room, I would have told you myself…just like I do on other occasions.”

"I'm going to ask you one more time,” I began again, my voice losing every element of calmness. “What happened to my room?"

Lylah's imposing aura filled the room and she fell to her knees, now understanding the gravity of what was going on. "Luna, I swear I didn't do it.” She cried.

"That's not going to explain anything.”

A part of me didn't want to believe that Maria would do something like being a traitor, but with the way information keeps leaving the Pack, anyone could be responsible for it, no matter how much you trusted them.

I got tired of asking her when she kept repeating that she didn't do it, and that Ashley, who I found out was the girl she'd been arguing with the other day in the hallway, was the one who told her I sent her to clean.

“Where's Ashley now?” I asked, just as the door swung open.

Kieran wore the same look I had on my face when I first entered. He let out a relieved sigh when his eyes finally landed on me and I was okay.

“What happened?"

I gave him a short recount of what happened and his eyes snapped to Maria, whose eyes had swollen from all the crying she was doing.

“Isn't Ashley Ida’s sister?" He asked and she nodded her head furiously.

My eyes widened in surprise. Ida had long been sent away from the pack and since I didn't really know her, I didn't know she had a sister.

But just as I wanted to ask what they had been arguing about that day, something else caught my eyes. A bruise forming on her neck.
