Damien stood on the carcass of the second Batsquatch which he had just killed. One of his legs on its head which he had just crushed against a hard trunk of a baobab tree. His eyes were glowing and his face stern. His body was positioned towards the front. He was looling like he had a score to settle.
At his front, about a metre away, there were the remaining three Batsquatches growling at him. He had his reason for not taking off his leg from the head of the dead Batsquatch.
Perhaps he was trying to pass a message across to the rest that if they knew what was good for them, they would know for sure that the same fate would catch up with them.
Again, he did realise that the impression he was giving could be misinterpreted by the beasts. They could be scared away by the sight of one of them being killed.
But that wasn't a reasonable thought to bank on. The system made sure to make it clear to him that he was to take down all the Batsquatches.
Which meant, even if the Batsquatches mase a run for it, he would have no choice but chase them and take them all down. He knew that too well.
He took his leg down. He bent over the corpse and lifted it up. Above his head. He began to walk towards the rest of the beasts, the carcass over his head.
When he was close enough, he hurled the carcass towards the rest. And as though the rest saw it coming, they leapt into the air, hanging above the earth with the aid of their flapping wings.
"Y'all are not so dumb after all."
Damien chuckled, looking from one Batsquatch to the other. His eyes fell on an orange ray of light seating on the foot of a large tree. He traced the ray to the direction of its source.
He grunted in displeasure. The sun had grown so orange that it couldn't keep the rays to itself any longer. Its rays were splattered and shared with the neighboring clouds which were hanging around it.
It was very obvious that it was just a matter of time before darkness makes a cloak and drape the whole face of the jungle with his costly cloak.
He would be at a disadvantage if he let night catch up on him before he killed all the beasts.
Bats were known to function well and travel effortlessly at night. They are known as creatures of the night. Darkness was the best tool they could ever use.
Though these creatures were not entirely bats, but they had a great deal and so many features of a typical bat.
Damien walked even closer this time. When he did, one of the beasts dropped on the earth.
Getting so close to the beast gave him a better view. Each beast was about two feet taller than he was. He didn't think they were that gaint. Or perhaps he had killed the weaklings of the group.
Again he was getting distracted by what didn't matter at all. He pursed his lips and nodded.
"Shall we then?"
And as though the batsquatch understood what he had just said, it leaped off the earth and came so actively at him.
Damien was calculative. He had kept track of the ways and manners at which the beasts attacked. He didn't need extra warning this time.
HIS CLAWS ARE COMING DIRECTLY TO MY FACE. AS USUAL.
He anticipated, pushing his body back to avoid that ruthless contact. He was still feeling pain in the side of his face. He didn't want that ugly experience to be complicated.
And while he thought he had averted the danger, the Batsquatch did something very strange but interesting. It twirled its body in the air, rolling like an angry wave towards Damien who never saw that coming.
