Every staff member who passed shot me looks of contempt. I ignored them, focusing on my phone as I completed the pack separation rituals. 

The Sterling Pack held a feast to celebrate Rose’s “adoption.” I claimed weakness from my injuries to hide in my chambers upstairs, but the Elder Council’s mocking whispers still crept through the door. 

From my wheelchair at the landing, I watched the scene below: a perfect family. Ethan tenderly filled Rose’s plate with her favorite moon blessed meats. Alexandra teased him about spoiling their 

pup. 

Ethan just smiled, adjusting the silver crown on Rose’s head. “My daughter will lead this pack one day, mark my words!” 

The pain in my chest finally exploded. Back in my room, I destroyed every pack token, every mating gift Ethan had given me over five years, throwing them into the waste bin. 

As it toppled over, Alexandra appeared before me. With one swift kick, she overturned my 

wheelchair. 

Pain racked my body, but she just smiled down at me. 

“How does it feel, Sarah? Being a crippled wolf?” 

“After all these years, you’re still so pathetically weak.” 

“Watching your Moonbinding ceremony become mine, watching your mate claim my pup as his own–and you just swallow it all down. You’re truly pitiful.” 

As I struggled to rise, Alexandra suddenly threw herself backward, tumbling toward the stairs. 

Before I could process what happened, Ethan had caught her in his arms. His eyes blazed Alpha–red 

as he glared at me. 

“Have you lost your mind? She came to invite you to feast with us–how dare you attack her?” 

The Pack Elders growled their disapproval. Rose wailed in distress. 

“Bad wolf! Bad wolf hurt Mama! Don’t let her join our pack!” 

“I want Mama! I want Mama!”
