Maja had already anticipated lan siding with Carlene, to which she replied, “No way” 

“Really? You aren’t scared this might affect your job, your family, or even your rep in the industry?” 

His tone was so nonchalant, even when threatening someone 

He glanced up, “And maybe even your husband’s recent promotion” 

She wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but lan seemed to be more aggressive this time. He wasn’t the chill guy she used to know. 

lan noticed she was pretty firm initially, but the mention of her husband’s job made her go silent. 

He couldn’t help but smirk 

“What a lovey–dovey couple you are” 

He stood up, his resolve stronger this time. 

“Apologize to Carlene before you check out.” 

If she doesn’t apologize and Carlene calls the cops, she could be accused of intentional assault. Carlene could provide a medical report detailing her injuries. 

And Maja was just a designer. She wouldn’t have so many pesky relatives in Crystalbrook Valley if her family had real power. 

If Carlene leverages the Shepard family’s influence and gets a lawyer involved, Maja could end up losing her job and landing in jail. 

lan returned to Carlene’s room. 

Carlene saw him return so quickly and smiled slightly. 

She said she should call the police immediately and charge Penny with assault. But she was more interested in knowing lan’s thoughts, 

“lan…” 

Before she could finish, lan took a seat. 

“I told her, She should apologize to you before she checks out. 

A light flickered in Carlene’s eyes; lan’s attitude was what mattered most to her. 

Since lan was on her side, she could pretend to be forgiving. 

“Fine, I’ll wait for her to come apologize.” 

Her tone suggested she was willing to let the rest slide. 

lan had an overseas meeting at dawn. He stayed for a while, arranged for the hotel’s chef to cater for Carlene, ensuring she would recover well, then planned to leave. 

“I have an overseas meeting at dawn.” 

Carlene knew he was busy but cooed, “Will you come to see me tomorrow?” 

lan initially wanted to decline, but he simply nodded, thinking of Maja next door. 

“Sure.” 

Next door, Maja was feeling quite agitated. Just then, Carol called with a gloomy tone. 

“Maja, I’ve found info on the two guys. They’ve left the country, so we can’t catch them for now.” 

Without the guys, they had no evidence to prove Carlene was behind everything Maja went through. 

Maja frowned, thinking of lan’s words, and felt suffocated. 

Plus, the bar didn’t have any surveillance. 

She rubbed her temples, tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep. 

She pulled out her phone, called Maria, and asked her to pick Coco up from the pet hospital. 

Usually, Maria would ask about the situation because Maja always preferred to pick up Coco herself. 

But Maja’s voice sounded incredibly exhausted. So, Maria didn’t say anything further. 

Maja hung up the phone, still unable to sleep. 

She called the doctor, asked for a sleeping pill, and finally fell asleep. 

The next morning, she heard some commotion outside, but it was not from her side. It was from Carlene. 

The hotel’s head chef had personally prepared breakfast for Carlene, and the food cart had been pushed over. 

When Maja went out, she ran into the food cart. 

It was so exquisite that she could still smell the food, even with the lids on the plates 

Maja stood there for a while, hearing Dana snicker behind her. 

“This is what lan prepared for Carlene. You’ve probably never seen a five-star hotel’s head chef personally deliver food, huh?” 

Maja, indeed had never seen it. 

Considering lan was her husband in name, but the hospitalized woman was his sweetheart, she felt unreal. 

Dana stood at the door, smirking, “Carlene and I are waiting for your apology. lan is on our side.” 

Maja, annoyed by Dana, went to the hospital’s cafeteria for some corn chowder. When she returned, she ran into lan, who was visiting. 

lan held a bouquet of champagne roses in his hands.
