Chapter 331
The elevator stopped on the first floor, and she went to complete the discharge procedures alone.
lan watched her leave, a slight frown on his face.
She seemed to always be alone.
As he was getting ready to drive off, she returned, waiting by the roadside for a taxi.
lan sat in the car, gripping the steering wheel, tapping his fingertips lightly, wondering how she could be so indifferent, not remembering anything from that night.
He rubbed his temples. He slowly drove the car past her, the window rolling down to reveal his profile.
“Where are you headed?”
Maja was surprised to see him still there. It’s not easy to get a taxi here.
“RosenGarden. Can you give me a ride?”
“Get in.”
Maja opened the car door and got in.
The car moved forward for about a hundred meters, stopping at a traffic light. It was rush hour, and the car moved very slowly.
“Why did you hit Carlene?”
He didn’t know her well, but she didn’t seem like the type to lose her temper easily.
The rib incident wasn’t minor, and she clearly didn’t hold back in the surveillance footage.
Even though Carlene had intended to hit her first, she hadn’t actually landed a punch.
Her retaliation seemed a bit over the top.
Maja was triggered by the two bodyguards‘ comments and her injury, but she couldn’t tell lan that.
“Ms. Shepard was prejudiced against me and kept causing me trouble. Dana said a few things to stir up trouble, and she believed her, ready to hit me.”
She didn’t realize her words sounded like she was complaining.
lan’s slender fingers gripped the steering wheel; he seemed very patient.
He didn’t really hold it against her. Maja was grateful for that.
Carlene was the woman he loved, but he only asked her to apologize.
“Mr. Raymond, you should probably hand over the design of Greenfield Gardens to someone else.”
Otherwise, Carlene might continue to cause her trouble.
Carlene had finally realized how much she had lost, a broken rib, a bout of stomach illness, only for an apology and a compensation of twenty thousand dollars. She was definitely going to be more vengeful in the future.
“I’ll have someone hand Dana her dismissal notice.”
There was no change in his expression. He sat up straight.
Maja stiffened, maybe the space in the car was too small, but she could smell a hint of sweetness.
Was this his response to her complaint?
She turned her head to look at him, but he was just staring straight ahead.
After the car started moving slowly, he asked, “You were in the hospital alone; doesn’t your husband care about you?”
Maja didn’t expect him to change the topic so quickly, but then she responded.
“He’s pretty busy.”
“You seem to trust him too much.”
“After all, he is my husband under the law and my family in name. If he has something he wants to pursue, I should support him.”
Her eyebrows curved slightly, and her eyes were bright and clear.
lan glanced at her, the sunlight just right on her eyelashes.
He remembered the scene where she was drunk, yelling, ‘Honey, I’m itchy,” his fingers unconsciously tightened, his wrist rigid.
Even though he looked cold and aloof, the image of her under him filled his mind.
Maja was oblivious to this; she just felt the car was cramped.
lan suddenly said in a deep voice, “Even if he’s secretly seeing other women, you don’t mind?”
He really didn’t know how Nathan had won her over.
Maja chuckled. “Then I can go find other men. That would be fair.”
She said this casually. But lan took it very seriously.
lan swallowed hard; he was wearing a fitted suit, looking immaculate. But underneath the white shirt, on his muscular back, there were a few distinct scratch marks.
Maja left those, but she didn’t remember a thing.
