Maja realized that the car seemed to get a whole lot smaller after she said those words. 

She was just kidding around. She only wanted to lighten up the mood, and then she heard him ask. 

“What kind of man are you looking for?” 

His voice was as clear as a spring hitting the rocks. 

Maja was taken aback again, and she even felt that lan might ask next, what do you think of me? 

She must be out of her mind, thinking lan would willingly play the lover for a woman. 

Because of this thought, she started chuckling with her head bowed. 

“Mr. Raymond, I was just joking around.” 

lan’s eyes cooled down, and he did not speak anymore. 

The car stopped at RosenGarden, Maja wanted to thank him as she got off, but he drove off without even a goodbye. 

Maja straightened up, sighing. 

His temper was really unpredictable. 

Back at RosenGarden, Maja didn’t have time to rest. She changed her clothes and went to the Pennyfeather family’s company. 

Not long after she stepped into the lobby, the receptionist had already informed Carter. 

Carter was sitting at Neil’s desk; his eyes glinted maliciously upon hearing the news. 

Recently, Glenn had been slacking off due to some discomfort. He was always thinking about how to get back to Maja. 

So, Carter, backed by Cristina’s shares and the trust he had built up over time, started handling the affairs of the Pennyfeather family’s 

company. 

The signing with ByteWise Technologies ended at nine in the morning. Even if Maja heard anything now, it was too late. 

Carter snorted, grabbed the coat hanging on the rack, and walked out with a boss–like swagger. 

By the time Maja came in, Carter was long gone. 

A trace of unease crossed her mind, and she immediately went to the business department and asked, “Which company is the biggest project the company has signed recently?” 

The people in the business department didn’t know Maja. They wouldn’t just hand over the company’s contracts to a stranger. 

Plus, with Neil still in the hospital, Maja couldn’t prove that she was Neil’s daughter. 

They made up an excuse to brush her off, clearly not wanting to show her. 

Maja understood. After all, they didn’t know her. 

She called Cristina. 

Cristina was at home, carefully appeasing Glenn. She had already given Glenn three million dollars to temporarily calm him down. 

Glenn hadn’t left the house in days. Cristina was stuck at home, afraid he would do something rash. 

When Maja called, she was a bit annoyed. 

“What is it?” 

“Cristina, I heard that Carter has been handling the company’s affairs recently?” 

The mention of Carter made Cristina tense up. She was afraid Maja had found something out. Sweat broke out on her palms, and her back stiffened. 

“Yes, you know how Glenn is, and Neil hasn’t woken up yet. Carter is his most trusted person. What’s wrong with him handling the company?” 

Maja frowned. She knew Neil trusted Carter a lot. After all, he had served the company for many years. But no matter what, Carter shouldn’t be signing contracts in place of Neil. 

“What’s the newest contract that the Pennyfeather family has signed?” 

“Maja, why do you care? You don’t have any shares in the company. Are you trying to interfere with the company’s affairs? Your grandparents are about to make a fuss again; you should consider how to help Neil solve this problem!” 

Cristina hung up. She didn’t know what project Carter had signed recently. 

He seemed to have mentioned it once, hoping she could guarantee that the board of directors would agree. She trusted Carter so much 

that she didn’t doubt him at all. 

Maja knew her current situation very well. Without the company’s shares, she was in a tough spot. 

Unless Neil could wake up immediately. 

She called Carol again, asking her to check on Carter’s recent whereabouts and the possible partners of the Pennyfeather family’s company. 

In the evening, Carol came to see her in person. 

“Maja, it seems that Carter has a secret lover.”
