ALEX
“Take everything away from him. I want his father's company ruined, and his career shattered.” I instruct Ryan.
It's been a week since I processed the divorce papers, and instead of feeling better, I feel even more angry.
She easily signed the damned papers for someone who denied what was right in front of her. As if it wasn't enough, Zayan drove her home.
What a disgusting sight.
“Alex, maybe you need to slow down.” Noah's annoying voice reaches my ears, and I turn to glare at him.
“I'd shut the fuck up if I were you.” I grind out as I grab my glass of whiskey.
I'm not a heavy drinker but fuck, I can use a few right now.
I want to ruin Zayan, starting with his father's stupid political career to his damned one as a doctor.
“Text Ian, I want Zayan fired and if he's still at the hospital tomorrow, we are going to have a problem.” I grind out before taking another sip.
Luca is quietly watching.
Wise choice.
I don’t need anyone questioning me right now.
Especially not my stupid cousin who has a stupid crush on my ex wife!
I down the rest of my whiskey and slam the glass onto the table, my patience hanging by a thread.
Ryan’s phone pings, and a smirk tugs at my lips as he reads the message.
“Ian says it’s handled. Zayan will be out by morning,” Ryan reports, locking his phone.
Good. That’s only the beginning.
I lean back in my chair, rolling my whiskey glass between my fingers. “What about his father?”
Ryan shifts. “We’re working on it. It’s tricky, but we’ve started leaking some documents. It’ll take a few days, but the scandal will stick.”
A slow, humorless chuckle escapes me.
“Make sure it does. I want that old man’s reputation buried so deep he’ll never recover.”
Luca, who has been quiet the entire time finally speaks, his eyes telling me he doesn't approve.
Not that it will change anything.
“And Athena?”
My jaw tightens at the sound of her name. My grip on the glass turns white-knuckled.
“I don’t care,” I lie, the words leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.
She made her choice.
Luca and Ryan exchange a look, but they nod.
“This is stupid. I can't sit here anymore!” Noah announces as he walks away.
As I turn away, the anger inside me is still there, coiled and waiting, hungry for destruction.
And I’ll feed it.
Zayan. His father. Anyone who stands in my way.
I’ll ruin them all.
And if Athena thinks she can move on so easily…
She’s fucking wrong.
I'll take away every little smile she has left and leave her as broken as I am.
My phone vibrates making me look down to see it's a text from Leah.
I'm really not in the mood right now.
My phone vibrates again.
And again.
I glance at the screen, irritation simmering beneath my skin when I see the name flashing across it.
Leah.
I let it ring.
Then it rings again.
What does she want?
I exhale sharply, rubbing a hand down my face.
This isn’t the fucking time.
I decline the call, tossing my phone onto the table, but before I can take another sip of whiskey, it starts vibrating again.
Luca seems to be as irritated as I am because he speaks in an irritated voice.
“Just pick the damn phone. ”
“What?” I snap, not bothering to mask my irritation.
“Aleexxx,” Leah’s voice drags out my name, sickly sweet. “You sound mad.”
Dad sighs, shaking his head, but he knows better than to waste his breath.
I head toward Nana’s room, ignoring Mom’s glare burning into my back.
The house feels different, colder. Maybe it’s because I know I’m not welcome here the way I used to be.
I knock twice before pushing the door open.
Nana is sitting by the window, her frail hands resting in her lap. Her silver hair is neatly braided, her eyes tired but still holding that strength never lost.
She doesn’t look at me.
“I see you finally decided to show your face,” she says, her voice angry.
I shut the door behind me and lean against it. “Mom summoned me.”
“She should have summoned a priest instead. Maybe then you’d listen to reason.”
I chuckle at that,
“You really think I need saving, Nana?”
She finally turns her gaze to me, piercing and full of disappointment. “You don’t just need saving, Alex. You need to wake the hell up before you burn everything to the ground-including yourself.”
I clench my jaw, my fingers twitching at my sides. “Too late for that.”
Her expression hardens. “You think revenge will fill the hole inside you?”
“I think it’ll make me feel a whole lot better,” I admit, a smile tugging at my lips.
Nana exhales sharply, shaking her head. “You’re your father’s son, alright. Stubborn but I can assure you, Athena a would never do such a thing. She loved you and she sure as hell loved that child!”
I scoff at that.
“Nana I love you to death. But I think old age is catching up. You can't even see a snake right in front of you.” I spit.
“look who is talking about age, you're still young but it's like you're becoming more stupid by the day.”
“We need to leave.” I ignore her insult.
“If you won't allow a mother to see her son off then I might as well just stay back home.”
“You won't send your grandson off?” I grind my teeth.
Nanas's face softens, “Please don't do this. I'm not asking you to forgive her, I just need you to let her see her child.”
“Rayen wants nothing to do with her. You will have to respect that.” I respond as I place a kiss on the top of her head before pulling back,
“I'll go ahead of everyone. Take care Nana. I love you.”
She doesn't respond to that but I don't wait for her response either because nothing will change my mind.
