ALEX

TALK ABOUT A SHITTY DAY!

My mood was already sour from the fight I had with Mum on my way to work. She wants to give half of my wealth to Athena.

Fucking half!

To a fucking murderer and cheater!

As if that wasn't crazy enough, Athena had to summon Ethan Sinclair.

How the fuck does she even know him?

Did they have a little reunion of meet and greet?

Let's meet each other's relatives dinner?

I don't even think I've ever had a conversation with the Sinclairs. I've known about them but not been interested enough to speak to any of them… well …until Zayan.

Just the thought of those two scheming has my heart twisting in anger!

Promising each other marriage?

I almost laugh at the audacity!

She dared.

She actually dared to bring another man, Ethan Sinclair of all people! into my office to demand her reinstatement, to demand Zayan’s reinstatement.

She didn’t come begging or pleading.

No, she walked in here like she had some kind of right, like she wasn’t the one who ruined everything.

And for what? To work beside her lover? To be with him freely, without shame?

My jaw clenches so hard it aches. She just confirmed everything I’ve ever believed. That she’s a liar.

A cheater.

Show her Rayen's grave? Over my dead body!

And Ethan-

My fingers crumple the edges of the envelope. The smug bastard dug into my past, into my weakness. He had no right. None. The only person who knew the truth was Ian and Leah.

Leah would never betray me so it has to be Ian.

A bitter laugh escapes me as I stare at the desk, a hollow ache blooming in my chest.

He sold me out.

My heart pounds. I can already hear the whispers that will spread if this leaks. The board will question my capability. My rivals will see me as weak. And worst of all?

Nana will know.

My Mum.

Dad.

This will be a mess. That's why I gave In.

Not that Ian won't hear from me.

I'm tempted to slam my fist against the desk, but I hold back.

Because standing in front of me is Leah.

My gaze flickers to where she stands, barely inside my office, clutching a child in her arms.

“Alex, you didn't return my calls.”

“I've been busy.”

A look of hurt passes through her eyes.

She is the mother.

Which is ridiculous!

“How old is this child?” I find myself asking.

“Three months.”

“He's yours?”

Leah looks at me.

The air in the room stills.

My heart pounds against my ribs as I stare at the tiny bundle in Leah’s arms. The baby shifts slightly, his small face scrunching up in sleep, and my stomach twists violently.

Green eyes. My jade green eyes.

But the black hair throws me off for a second, until I notice the shape of his nose. The same as mine.

No.

My breath catches.

No.

My hands grip the edge of my desk as I force my gaze back to Leah. “Leah,” my voice is low, almost a growl, “whose child is this?”

She doesn’t answer right away. Instead, she takes slow, hesitant steps toward me, tears falling down her cheeks.

“I didn’t want you to find out like this,” she whispers. “But I couldn’t keep it from you anymore.”

The baby stirs, his tiny fingers curling into a fist against Leah’s shirt.

“This is our child, Alex,” she says, voice trembling. “You and I… we made a baby.”
