CHAPTER 7 novel Dear Ex-Wife, You Are MINE!

MAEVE LILY...

I hastily entered the hospital lobby and found Dr. Cane in the reception area. "Doc! How is grandma now?!"

"Miss Lily, I am sorry for bringing you here like this. But it was urgent." While talking to my impatient state, he walked me to Grandma's ward. "Her condition is worsening and this time surgery is inevitable. Maximum a week, then she needed to undergo the valve replacement."

My heart tightened at his words. I tried to enter her ward, but Doctor Cane stopped me. "Miss Lily, you can't get inside now. She is under observation for 24 hours. You can see her tomorrow if everything is fine."

I paused and only watched her through the glass view. She was lying like a lifeless figure. It's painful for me to see her this way and do nothing.

"H-ow much will cost in surgery?" I muttered out the question, knowing whatever the amount was, I could not cover it in one pay. Still hoped.

"Around 170 thousand..."

And the last bit of my hope was shattered. No words came out of me as I stared at Grandma's thin body. Even if I count my early wage, it is still far away for me. I barely managed her regular medication, how would I be able to pay 170 thousand dollars?

"Miss Lily?" Doc's concerned tone came from behind as I swallowed the hard lump.

"No less?" I asked, embarrassed. "I mean, can I pay in instalments every month?"

I heard his sigh. "I understand your situation. But, before the rules of the hospital, I am helpless. I am afraid there is no such rule. Yes, You can pay it in two times. 1st before the surgery and 2nd after the surgery."

"Hmm..." My throat dried. It still doesn't help my situation. "Give me a few days doc. I will do something." I replied.

"Alright..." I heard his footsteps fade behind and I still stood there with a heavy heart.

After my mom died, Dad got married immediately to a rich woman. I stayed with them for a few years until my teen heart broke at the physical abuse and mental torture.

Later, I was raised by my grandma. She gave away all her savings for my education and a better future. But, what did I give her?

Nothing...

No increment in the job, nor help from that so-called family. I couldn't give the life I promised to my grandma.

Leaning toward the glass view, I closed my eyes and let my tears slip off. All my ways were forcefully closed but... One.

Would she help? My stepmother. If I beg and let go of my dignity in front of her, will she help? I don't know. But, how could I ..... My hesitation died when my eyes fell on Grandma's pale face. Even from a distance, I could feel the immense ache she was going through now.

I wasn't in the place to oscillate between my decisions.

Wiping the tears harshly from my cheeks, I looked at Grandma. I once promised you to provide a good life, Grandma and I will do it even if that means I need to strip out of my stature.

*********

The entire day I was drowned in thoughts of grandma's condition and managing money. The more I thought of going back to that selfish woman, I felt my soul bruising. However, no choice left. I need to.
