MAEVE LILY...
Before my thoughts were processed, I was pushed back by Theodore before he jumped into the cold water for Alyssa, splashing some on me.
Startled, I stumbled back, losing balance, I fell to the ground on my butt. Immediately a sharp pain chimed in, forcing a hiss out of me.
Soon the quiet night turned into a messy chaos. Maids, guards and our parents rushed out. Theo saved Alyssa from drowning and came out of the water, holding her in his arms. Maids brought warm towels, trying to send some heat to her shivering body.
In the short distance, I was sitting on the ground, dumbfounded at the scene. What the hell just happened?!
She inverted my peace, provoked me, hurt me and now she's the one with attention and care while no one bothered to even spare a glance at my way. Sadly enough, my own father too.
But why I am sad? This was expected, right? I shouldn't be bothered or hurt by something that had been a crucial part of my life. Their negligence and hatred have been always toward me no matter who did the wrong deed.
Elegiac enough, but it still breaks me every single time. I don't know how to stop being hurt.
Alyssa's cry was pathetic. "I-I only tried to help her..." Her shivery tone pulled my attention. "Whe-n mommy declined her to give money, I wanted to help her. But, she..." Alyssa sniffed, taking a knowing pause as if I was the craziest person here for not considering her emotions!
"This obnoxious girl!" Ruby shrieked, flinching at Servants and guards. "How dare you hurt my daughter!?"
"I... I did not. It was just an accident." Couldn’t help the desperate explanation tumbled out of me.
"Accident? Lying again!?" Ruby furiously stepped forward. "You know my daughter can't swim and water phobic! You did it on purpose! Trying to kill my daughter!? Avenging me for not giving you money? How pathetic of you!"
I stared at her. Loss for words as my head instinctively turned toward the quiet swimming pool. This much water would rarely cover her entire figure, how could someone die there? And Water phobic? Just because she accidentally once slipped into the water in our college competition, she turned water-phobic and suddenly came out tonight after all the years? What about her jumping in pool parties almost every night in these years?
Sucking in a deep breath, I turned to my furious stepmother. "I was only leaving when... 'Pang~'..." Words died in my throat as Heat increased on my right cheek. It felt like something rang in my ear, making me deaf for a few good seconds.
"How dare you talk back to me after attempting to kill my daughter!? I... I should be calling the police on you!" She barked at me.
Water forced out of my eyes, as I stood there in silence. My eyes glanced at my cold father once. I probably don't exist for him.
"Mrs Farrington," Theo finally spoke, though I couldn't look at him. "Please calm down. Let's not get to the extent. It won't be good for our prestige, to send her to prison. I will only drag the family name in both personal and professional terms."
Coldly rare, However, he did speak for me. Should I be relieved? Or, it's too early for me to decide?
"Let her go?" Ruby argued. "Didn't you see what she did? She tried to kill Alyssa! She should be in jail!" Ruby raised her hand to slap me again as I shut my eyes, prepared to receive another pang of pain.
"Mrs Farrington." Theodore's voice deepened this time as if he was agitated. All attention turned to him, including mine in surprise. However, his sullen face turned void again, "Don't lose your patience. Take Alyssa inside and let me deal with her."
