Facing all the sneers and the patronizing attitudes, he brushed it off like it was nothing.

A little while later, the door to the conference room swung open. Claire stepped in, rocking a blue business suit that exuded a mix of elegance and authority. She made her way straight to the seat closest to the head of the table and settled in, casually taking off her scarf and gloves. "What's got everyone buzzing?" she asked with a confident smirk.

The room's vibe shifted as soon as Claire entered. Folks either started reminiscing or laying on the flattery thick. Chloe, on the other hand, was quietly taking it all in.

Among the eight shareholders were Valeria and Madison. They showed up last, and it was hard to tell where they stood. Out of the six others, four were firmly in Diego's camp. Diego had already thrown his weight behind Claire, which left Connor with no real shot at winning.

Soon enough, Jeffery walked in. Everyone stood up as he made his way to the head of the table, not bothering with pleasantries. "I laid it all out yesterday. Let's get on with the voting," he said bluntly.

Just then, the door opened again. Diana rolled in on a wheelchair, catching Jeffery's eye with a slight frown. "Grandfather, since I'm now a major shareholder of Sartori Corporation, I reckon I should have a vote too," she stated.

Jeffery had announced the day before that Diana and Chloe each held a five percent stake in the company. Yet, they hadn’t been counted among the eight voting shareholders. Chloe’s eyes narrowed as she saw Diana.

Jeffery nodded, "Alright, you and Chloe can each cast a vote."

Silence stretched until Jeffery, his expression stern, prompted, "Who's your vote for?"

Diego spoke up, "My vote’s for Claire."

One by one, the others followed suit: "Claire gets my vote too." "Same here." "Count me in."

The echoes wrapped up quickly, leaving Claire with seven votes and poor Connor with just Chloe’s lone support. Chloe glanced at Connor, worry etched across her face. This outcome had to sting. Yet, Connor sat there, surprisingly composed.
