Maddie leaned on her hand, watching Chloe with a mischievous glint in her eye. “What if I’m just really into the real deal?” she teased.

Chloe shot back with a playful grin, “Sorry, this one's unique and not up for grabs.”

Connor sat back, observing the subtle sparring between the two women. Chloe’s resolve made him happy, but the whole original-versus-knockoff chat left him feeling a bit odd. It was like he and Teddy, two grown men, were being sized up like handbags on display—totally unsettling.

Turning to Amelia, Connor said, “You should head back. Whatever’s happening with Teddy, it’s your call to handle it. I’m his boss, not his dad. If it gets too crazy, maybe the Andersons can take him home.”

He had no intention of getting wrapped up in the drama. He had plans for a nice dinner with his wife at some fancy place.

Connor got up and walked over to Chloe. “Let’s head out. I bet the little one’s hungry too.”

He called the Shaw family. Thirty minutes later, Ruby, Neil, the Shaw brothers, and Cassie were all there, waiting outside the delivery room.

Ruby and Neil had flown back from Luxembourg just in time, knowing Chloe was due any day. Everyone was on edge, pacing restlessly. Updates trickled out from inside, assuring them all was going smoothly.
