Chapter 171
Nicolas was somewhat vexed. “S her return to the country, there have been incidents cropping up here and there every few days. I’m aware that many of these events were orchestrated by her, yet her brother once did me a great favor…
Darwin couldn’t help but feel indignant upon hearing this. “Nicolas, her brother indeed did you a favor. However, after all these years, you’ve been lavishing resources on Ms. Ralap. The wealth she has amassed is something she could never have attained in her former life. You’ve already done more than enough.”
“Shut up!” Nicolas’s tone suddenly turned icy, a tinge of sorrow creeping into his eyes. “Both he and Stephanie lost their parents years ago. For all these years, it’s been just the two of them, relying on each other. Before his passing, he asked me to take good care of his sister. If it weren’t for me, he wouldn’t have died. I owe him this. Darwin, if you utter such words again, you needn’t remain by my side.”
Darwin Novak immediately fell silent.
He truly felt for Nicolas, pained to see him tormented by his conscience and guilt for so many years. The more guilt–ridden he was, the better he treated Stephanie.
However, Stephanie had been making quite a few underhanded moves recently, which worried him.
He couldn’t help but feel that Stephanie was like a ticking time bomb.
Thea replied promptly: [I’m at the appointed restaurant.]
Darwin relayed Thea’s message, but Nicolas was a bit concerned. “I broke my promise. It’s only natural that she’s displeased.”
Darwin quickly offered, “Shall I prepare some gifts for Miss Rowland?”
Nicolas nodded, then shook his head. “I’ll select them myself. Have them send me the pictures immediately.”
With that, he strode out with his long legs.

Thea held the diagnostic report, her hand still trembling.
She had thought that after going through so much, her heart had become cold, hard, and composed enough.
Yet, unexpectedly, she was thrown into chaos today.
Stephanie looked at her flustered state with a touch of smugness, the corners of her mouth involuntarily curling up. “Well, if things are like this, if you still insist on staying by Nicolas’s side, you’ll only be inviting humiliation upon yourself.”
Thea put down the diagnostic report. “When did this happen? I mean, did he actually have an intimate relationship with you?”
Stephanie caressed her belly, wearing a sweet expression. “The exact time of my pregnancy is on it. You can work it out for yourself. Besides, why would I lie? You can take this diagnosis report to Nicolas and ask him directly if it’s all fabricated. I’m the one who’ll be his wife from now on, Thea. Don’t you think your current position is rather awkward? If I were you, I’d surely be too ashamed to stay here any longer.”
Thea took a deep breath, her eyes welling up with a tinge of bitterness. “I’m going to find Nicolas and get to the bottom of
this.”
Stephanie was taken aback. She quickly got up and rushed after her.

As soon as she descended the stairs, Thea spotted Nicolas’s car across the road. She walked over briskly, her face darkened.

She gripped a bit too tightly, and her delicate manicure scratched Thea. “Thea, do you really have to court humiliation?”

Thea winced in pain and shook off her hand. “What’s the matter? He’s here now. Why not just clear things up? I’m not going to be bothered by your nonsense in the future.”
When Stephanie’s hand was shaken off, she grew even more flustered and didn’t even notice that she was standing in the middle of the road.
Nicolas got out of the car and saw the two of them tugging at each other in the middle of the road. His heart lurched.
Just then, a car came speeding towards them.
Almost instinctively, he rushed over and pulled Thea into his arms.
Before Thea could utter a word, she was caught off guard and enfolded in his embrace.
In the next instant, a deafening crash rang out behind them, followed by the screeching sound of the car’s tires against the ground.
Thea subconsciously clutched Nicolas and looked up at him. His gaze shifted from shock to fear and anxiety.
“Nic…” Before she could speak, Nicolas pushed her out of his arms.
She felt deflated, lacking even the courage to speak, her heart swelling with grievances and sorrow.
She wanted to say that Stephanie’s accident had nothing to do with her, but she lacked the strength to utter the words. The shrill siren of the ambulance pierced the night sky as Stephanie was loaded into the vehicle.
