Nicolas was in the smoking room.
The moment Darwin entered, a strong whiff of cigarette smoke assailed his nostrils.
Nicolas held a half–smoked cigarette between his fingers. The weariness in his handsome eyes was unmistakable.
Scattered around his leather boots were numerous cigarette butts.
This was the first time Darwin had witnessed him in such a state, and concern immediately welled up within him. “Mr. Hendrix, is Ms. Ralap’s condition really bad?”
Nicolas reached out and pinched the bridge of his nose. “No, the doctor said her life isn’t in danger. She’ll need some time to recuperate. Her leg is broken, but it can be treated.”
“But she’s pregnant.” A glint of coldness flashed across his dark eyes. “Perhaps she came to me to tell me about this.”
Darwin was also taken aback. “Ms. Ralap? Pregnant?”
Nicolas tossed the cigarette butt in his hand to the ground in exasperation and ground it out with his foot. “I’ve had someone look into it. She slept with a producer who has connections for a role. She managed to keep it under wraps quite well and hardly anyone knew. In fact, she could have sought my help, but guess why she chose to do it this way?”
He let out a cold laugh. “Just to ensure her competitors would never get any acting gigs. She knew I’d definitely turn down such a request if she made it to me, so she took matters into her own hands. Darwin, look at the kind of person she is. If it weren’t for her brother, I really wouldn’t give a damn about her life or death.”
Darwin was truly astonished.
Nicolas took a deep breath. “So I intend to send her abroad immediately after she recovers. When she was nearly hit by that car today, I was indeed terrified. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to face her brother, and I really didn’t want to get tangled up in this mess. So, this seems like the best solution.”
Indeed, Darwin couldn’t help but feel a sense of injustice on his behalf. ‘All because of a favor, he had gotten this trouble with Stephanie.’
Just then, a commotion of noisy footsteps erupted from outside.
Darwin furrowed his brows and was about to go out to see what was going on when his phone rang.

When he saw the message content, he was so infuriated that he almost let loose a string of expletives. “What on earth is going on? How did the media get wind of this?”
Nicolas let out a cold chuckle, his eyes icy. “Someone must have tipped them off in advance. I’ll handle them. You go and find out which mole we have among our staff.”
“Yes.” Darwin nodded and took his leave.
When Nicolas opened the door and stepped out, he was immediately swarmed by a horde of reporters.
Flashbulbs were flashing incessantly, and the camera lenses were almost shoved into his face.
“Mr. Hendrix, is your relationship with Ms. Ralap genuine or fabricated?”
“Mr. Hendrix, how is Ms. Ralap’s condition now? Why did she get into a car accident? Some insiders have revealed that she

was accidentally hit by a car because she was arguing with your suitor.”
“Mr. Hendrix, may I ask if Ms. Ralap is, as rumored, pregnant?”
Nicolas’s face remained impassive, an air of hostility seeming to envelop him.

He didn’t answer their questions. Instead, he countered, “Did the person who sent you here to interview me ever mention to you what the consequences of offending me would be?”

The reporters exchanged glances.
They were all from small media companies, and some were interns or newbies. Hearing that this was explosive news, they had rushed over without giving it much thought.
“You have five minutes. If you don’t leave now, you’ll have to face the consequences.” Nicolas’s voice was stern as he issued the ultimatum.
Thea was still in a daze when she returned home.
Now, whenever she closed her eyes, all she could see was Stephanie lying in a pool of blood.
Nicolas was also there, but he was standing a bit far away, so she couldn’t make out his expression clearly. All she knew was that he seemed to be blaming her.
On a whim, she turned on her phone to check the online public opinion.
He had already arrived safely overseas and specifically called to express his gratitude to her, asking her to take good care of
The lawyer lowered his voice to remind her. “Miss Rowland, now that the items are in your possession, I suggest you quickly make them yours legally. That way, even if they try to take them back, it’ll be to no avail. I’m sorry I’m overseas now and can’t be of much help. But I have a junior who’s quite knowledgeable about the law. If you need assistance, I can give him a few instructions.”
