Annie's P.O.V.

Relief washed over me as I saw them take my mother and her boyfriend away. She was a sick woman. Maybe she will have some time to reflect on her actions in jail. As far as our relationship goes, it was over. She never looked at me as her daughter so from now on I won't be calling her my mother.

Nothing went wrong for the next couple of months. I enrolled myself at a university and got a part time job. It was just a small office clerk position. Nothing too special. But at least I won't feel like a freeloader anymore as Evan was paying for everything. Everything was going well. I was finally happy.

I didn't have anything to do one day so I decided to surprise Evan at his university with lunch. He was always cooking at home so I figured I should treat him this time.

I knew his class schedule so I decided to wait for him outside of his class right before it ended.

I saw him coming out and my heart fluttered. We have been together for a while now but he still makes my heart beat faster.

I patiently waited for him to come outside. He still hasn't seen me yet. I narrowed my eyes as I saw a girl with long black hair approaching him. And who is that supposed to be?

The girl stopped him midway and started chatting away. She threw her hair back and giggled as if Evan is the funniest guy in the world. I don't like that girl, I decided.

I saw her touch his arm. That's it, I am going in...

"Ahem..." I cleared my throat.

Evan turned his head and smiled. His bright blue eyes lit up as soon as he saw me. "Annie! What are you doing here?" he asked.

"I wanted to surprise you with lunch," I said.

"Oh great, I am starving," he said.

"Aren't you going to introduce us Evan?" the girl said. She had a high pitched voice. So annoying.

"Yeah, Annie this is my lab partner Melanie. Melanie, this is my girlfriend Annie," Evan introduced us.

"Oh, I didn't know you had a girlfriend Evan," Melanie said.

How dare you not mention me, Evan? I thought to myself.

"Um...anyway. Since Annie is here, I will go eat with her. Bye Melanie," Evan said and wrapped his arms around my shoulders.

"Okay. Don't forget about the party!" Melanie said and waved goodbye.

"What was she talking about? What party?" I asked Evan as soon as Melanie left and we went to sit outside.

"She is throwing a party with some college students so she invited me. I was going to tell you about it when I got home.

"Oh really? You guys seem to be close," I said gruffly.

"Huh? We are not? She is just my lab partner," Evan said dismissively.
