Chloe's POV
At the announcement, everything in the banquet hall seemed to have stopped.
The elders and officials with me all froze on the spot as they looked at the direction of the announcement.
At the central most end of the banquet hall was a stairway. There, all eyes laid with awe and reverence.
The next moment, I felt a cold wave of blood thirst sweeping around the entire hall. The aura was heavy and oppressing, most of all it was several times more fearsome and ferocious as my father’s suppressing aura.
While the aura was heavy and ruthless, no one resisted. Instead, everyone knelt down with their heads lowered as their mouth opened greeting in unison, “Greetings to the new Lord of the werekind Alpha Kain!”
My eyes swept at the positions where Vannessa and the rest were, fortunately, all of us were able to react on time as this was all happening.
Finally after five years of running away, four of us will lay our eyes on the person who brought our pack into ruins.
“Keep your cool and quickly regroup the moment the party resumes.” I sent a mindlink to my comrades as I was worried that they would leak out any form of rage in their bodies.
Everyone in the hall waited for the figure above to reply to the heartfelt greetings but we were all given with silence. Two pairs of eyes swept in the crowd as if he was savoring the view of the entire all kneeling down toward him in submission.
Just thinking about it made my stomach churn in rage and disgust. However, now is not the time to move yet. Clenching my fist so hard that I felt my nails digging through my palms, I blinked and tried to let out an expression of fawning and infatuation.
Since the identity of the alpha was known to have an affection to Alpha Kain, then I braced myself to act like one, even though it was too hard for me to maintain calmness deep inside.
“At ease!” Finally after the long eerie silence, a cold voice with a tone of haughtiness sounded slowly leaving another wave of cold shivers in everyone’s bodies. Ironically, no one dared to lift their heads nor even dared to breathe loudly.
Slow and steady steps sounded as we felt the owner of the voice walking down the staircase. It was as if the King had descended and us the peasants must pay our utmost respect.
The sound of footsteps became louder as Alpha Kain came nearer to the audience until finally it came to a stop.
Alpha Kain’s voice sounded once more, but this time, it was a little bit lighter and easy-going as compared to earlier.
“I have gathered everyone today to see if my subjects are well and good. This is a night to celebrate our strength even after the enemy tried to shake us down… Continue the banquet!”
As if in a queue everyone lifted up their heads and stood, there I saw the face of my enemy whom I have been preparing to defeat in the last five years.
Alpha Kain wore an elegant suit that accentuated his coldheartedness. His pale complexion added to the fearsome aura being emanated in his deep brown eyes.
Everywhere he looked feels like an attack that could easily pierce one's heart into nothingness.
“This man is dangerous!” Aurora told me with great apprehension in her voice. “I don’t like him Chloe!”
“I don’t like him as well,,,” I replied as I burned his face in my mind. This was the person who destroyed all my father’s hardwork and legacy. This is the person who caused the destruction of the Blood Moon Pack!
“How are you??” While I was in my thoughts, Allan and Vannessa finally approached me and asked about my condition.
