Chapter 1081

In the police car, Alec dialed up his boss. “Brody, need you over at Riverside Road police station. I was assaulted and threatened. I’m on my way there now.”

Once he hung up, Alec settled back into his seat. His wife and son had stopped crying. Alexa whispered, “Honey, I think that guy’s bad news. You think we’re in for it?”

Alec shot her a cold, hard grin. “He started it, so why would we be in trouble?”

He was brimming with confidence. “Brody’s chummy with the deputy chief of police. I’ll make sure this blows up big and they get hauled off to jail!”

“Honey, you’re amazing!” Alexa was relieved.

With a bossy tone, Alec declared, “Anyone messes with my wife and son, they’re gonna pay!”

The police officer driving ahead glanced at the couple through the rearview mirror, his gaze filled with complex emotions.

Once they reached the station, Charlie got out, carrying Kya. Estelle’s brows furrowed when she saw Jonathan waiting at the police station’s entrance, her gaze shifting to Charlie.

Charlie chuckled lightly, “Sorry Estelle, but I had no choice. He’d ask eventually and I wouldn’t have an explanation.”

Estelle remained silent.

Jonathan strode over, first checking over Kya to make sure she was okay, then turned to Estelle, a teasing glint in his eyes. “So, how many times is this?”

Charlie chimed in, “What do you mean, ‘how many times’?”

Jonathan arched a brow, his tone indulgent. “Ask her how many times she’s been to the police station.”

“That’s none of your business!” Estelle retorted, then marched inside.

Charlie chuckled softly, whispering to Jonathan, “Looks like God’s handing you a damsel-in-distress situation.” Jonathan shrugged, “If only she were actually in distress.”

“Let’s head in and see.”

“Alright.”

As the two men walked in, Alec and his wife followed, sneering, “What, bringing in reinforcements?”

Jonathan shot him a glance, his eyes full of his usual cold sarcasm and indifference. He didn’t respond.
