Tossing his phone aside, Jonathan frowned, a storm of fury and concern for Estelle swirling within him. 

Estelle, who had been abused by her foster parents as a child, had been further wounded by her own parents upon returning to the Macclain family. 

Why on earth had she come back to the Macclain family? 

For him! 

Estelle had come rushing back for him, and he had failed to protect her! 

If only he could turn back the hands of time, dig deeper after Stella’s incident, and discover that she wasn’t dead. If he had chased her all the way to C City, perhaps they wouldn’t have had to go through such tumultuous times. 

And she wouldn’t have had to face those wolves in sheep’s clothing in the Macclain family!

They were supposed to have divorced. Jonathan had been cold and clearly despised Estelle, and it was only after losing hope in their relationship that he had agreed to annul their engagement. 

So why was Jonathan now so protective of Estelle? 

Just because Estelle was the governess of the Lamont family? 

Was Jonathan really that petty?

Bennett sounded anxious and concerned, “Estelle, how are you doing? I saw the posts online and I’m really worried about you. Where are you? Do you want me to pick you up and bring you home?” 

Estelle responded with her usual calm and cold demeanor, “If I come home now, won’t there be posts saying that my ‘true nature’ has been exposed and I’m now pretending to get along with you?”
