Gia felt a pang of sympathy. 

“It’s okay, Jessie. Ms. Logan is very kind. She won’t mind at all. You can relax and feel at ease? 

Gia felt the urge to gently stroke Jessie’s head. 

Jessie had no hair due to chemotherapy and always wore a pink hat outside. Gia knew Andrew bought it, and Jessie treasured it. 

Gia’s eyes were full of sympathy, almost on the verge of tears, and her hand hovered in mid–air. After a short pause, it gently lowered, slowly reaching out to touch Jessie’s hat. 

“Jessie, don’t worry. Ms. Logan will help with your brother’s case. 

Jessie nodded, her tension melting away, and a smile spread across her face.“Thank you, Gia, and Ms. Logan. 

Mariela heard the conversation from the back seat and sighed. 

Jessie and her brother’s lives were hard. 

Problems always hit the weakest, and misfortune found those already struggling. 

Mariela felt deep empathy and was sensitive. She ached inside and teared up. 

She calmed down, adjusted her emotions, and said to the back seat, “Gia, help Jessie with her seatbelt.” 

“Okay.” 

Andrew and Jessie were in the same hospital. 

It was a regular hospital with a crowded ward and four beds. 

Winter was starting, and the cold wind blew outside. The windows were closed tight due to the low temperature. 

Mariela entered and smelled the bad odor from the man near the door. He seemed unwashed, and Mariela almost gagged 

She frowned, ignored her discomfort, and followed Jessie. 

Andrew lay on the bed at the far end. 

He leaned against the pillow, facing the window, blankly watching dead leaves fall outside. 

“Andrew,” Jessie said with a joyful smile. 

Andrew quickly turned.“Jessie, you’re here. Have you had meals?” 

Jessie nodded, smiling.“Yes, I just finished it.” 

She was lying. 

She had left the hospital that morning to ask Gia for help and hadn’t eaten. 

To avoid worrying her brother, she lied. 

“Gia, you’re here too,” Andrew said with a smile. 

After greeting, Andrew looked at Mariela and hesitantly asked, “And this is?” 

Gia replied, “This is our law firm’s lawyer, Ms. Logan.” 

Mariela nodded. “Hello, Mr. Avery. Gia has filled me in on your situation. Would it be possible to discuss it further? I’m here to help you seek compensation from your former employer.” 

Andrew looked unsure.“I…Sorry, Ms. Logan, I can’t afford legal fees…” 

He gave an awkward smile, “As you can see, I’m struggling just to cover my medical bills, and hiring a lawyer is out of the question… I apologize for making you come all this way.”
