Jaime smiled slightly, seeming pleased. 

“I know you won’t just take my word for it.” He pulled out his phone and hit play on a recording. “Listen to this first, then you can decide if you believe it or not.” 

“Lenny, I barely survived. For over a month, you were the only reason I held on. Thinking of you gave me the strength to keep going…” 

“Every day, I kept telling myself to just hang in there, to get out of that place alive. I knew that if I stayed alive, I could see you again. If I didn’t make it, I’d never get to see you…” 

“Lenny, please, just stay with me. I feel like I’m losing it. Every time I try to sleep, I see those monsters… It’s just too much to handle. The mental torment is even worse than the physical pain…” 

“Can you just stay and talk to me a little longer? Even if you yell at me… Just don’t go, please… I really, really want to stay with you… You’re the light of my life!” 

It was Dalia’s voice. 

Mariela’s heart tightened as she listened. 

She clutched her fists tightly, her knuckles blanching, her eyes brimming with raw emotion. 

Jaime leaned in, bending slightly to look Mariela in the eye.“Lennon didn’t tell you Dalia was kidnapped over a month ago, did he? Do you still think she’s in jail waiting for trial?” 

“What?” Mariela’s eyes widened in shock, her voice pitching higher. 

Jaime felt a sense of satisfaction at her reaction. 

He had guessed right. 

The Stark family had hidden the news. Mariela didn’t know Dalia was kidnapped. 

Jaime smiled. 

He stood up straight, towering over Mariela. 

A mocking glint appeared in Jaime’s eyes.“Do you really think Lennon could be completely indifferent to the woman who pursued him for ten years? Marie, you’re really naive. You don’t understand men.” 

Mariela looked down, silent, deep in thought. 

Jaime went on,“On your engagement day, Dalia was arrested. But she claimed she was pregnant. On the way to the hospital, she was kidnapped. “You know who’s got the power in New York to kidnap someone from the police right out in the open.” 

The answer was clear. 

In New York, only the Stark family had such immense power to do so.
