After the bodyguard left, the man took out his phone and made an international call.

Lennon left the base and saw Mariela’s missed call on his phone. 

He called her back immediately. 

“Marie, are you asleep?” 

Mariela’s voice was sleepy.“Mmm… I’m so tired, I can’t keep my eyes open.” 

Lennon got in the car and sat in the back, speaking gently, “Why not sleep if you’re tired?” 

Mariela’s voice was soft with sleep. “I was waiting for your call.” 

Lennon’s heart softened.“I just finished here. Do you want me to come keep you company?” 

Mariela checked the time and mumbled, “Maybe tomorrow. I need to sleep now.” 

“Alright, Lennon said softly.“It’s cold, make sure you’re covered well.” 

“I know, do you think I’m a kid who doesn’t know how to cover up?” 

Mariela’s voice faded into sleep, leaving only her steady breathing on the line. 

Lennon gripped the phone, listening to her breathing, his hand throbbing but reluctant to end the call. 

He kept the call going as he drove back to his villa. 

As he got out, the driver said respectfully, “Mr. Stark, Matthew called earlier about an urgent matter, but couldn’t reach you.” 

Lennon’s eyes 

hardened, and he abruptly ended the call with Mariela. 

Immediately, Matthew’s call came through. 

Lennon answered coldly, “What’s wrong?” 

Matthew’s voice was tight and shaky, “It’s bad, Mr. Stark. Our people just called to say Dalia’s father jumped off the hospital building and killed himself. I think this isn’t a coincidence. Also, the people looking for David’s mother said…” 

Lennon narrowed his eyes, his voice cold.“Said what?” 

“They said David’s mother died from carbon monoxide poisoning while burning charcoal at home for warmth.” 

A sharp glint flashed in Lennon’s eyes.“Was she already dead?” 

Matthew’s voice shook, “Yes. When our people found her, she was already dead.” 

A cold look came into Lennon’s eyes, his voice icy, “Matthew, if you don’t figure this out in five days, you know the consequences.” 

Matthew answered nervously, “Understood.” 

The next morning. 

Mariela was awakened by knocking. 

At first, the “knock, knock, knock” sound was in her dream. 

It kept going. 

Mariela slowly woke up. The knocking got clearer, and she realized someone was knocking at the door.
