She was so lost in her world that she didn’t notice Mariela and Lennon entering the room. 

“Jessie. Mariela placed the things in her hands on the small table and greeted Jessie. 

Jessie came to her senses. When she turned her head to look at Lennon, a flash of astonishment and confusion crossed her gaze. 

Mariela smiled and introduced, “Jessie, this is my boyfriend, Lennon.” 

Jessie greeted Lenny happily, “Hello, Lenny.”

Lennon remembered Mariela’s repeated instructions that he must greet with a smile when he saw Jessie. Mariela was afraid his coldness would scare Jessie. 

With a mild smile, Lennon tried to speak in a gentle tone, “Hello.” 

Jessie pursed her lips and shyly averted her gaze. 

Mariela walked in and sat down by Jessie’s bed. 

Jessie’s complexion, with sunken eye sockets, became even paler and more haggard. She became thinner. 

Mariela felt a wave of suffocating pain. 

Mariela held back her sadness and took out a fluffy white hat from the gift bag. Mariela said with a smile, “Jessie, this is a gift for you. Do you like it?” 

Jessie’s eyes sparkled. She smiled sweetly.“I like it! Thank you, Marie.” 

Over the past few days, the two of them had already become friends. 

Jessie no longer politely addressed Mariela as “Ms. Logan,” but affectionately called her “Marie.” 

Jessie took the hat and immediately replaced the one on her head. She put on the hat and asked Mariela eagerly, “Does it look good, Marie?” Mariela gently reached out and touched Jessie’s head, whispering, “So adorable.” 

Mariela accompanied Jessie for a chat. 

Lennon’s phone rang. He picked it up and shook it toward Mariela, indicating that he needed to go out to answer the call. 

Mariela nodded. 

After Lennon left, there were only Mariela and Jessie in the ward. 

Jessie hesitated several times as if she had something to say to Mariela. 

Mariela noticed it and asked, “Jessie, what’s wrong?” 

Jessie stammered, “Marie, can…Can you help me with makeup?” 

Mariela paused for a moment. 

Jessie added, “My condition has been getting worse recently. You may have noticed that my face is getting paler day by day. Every time my brother came to see me, he was sad. I know he is upset. I just don’t want to make him worry about me.” 

Flooded by sadness, Mariela couldn’t help but feel her eyes welling up with moisture. 

“Of course. You are so cute. You will look beautiful with makeup on.” 

Jessie smiled, revealing two dimples on her pale face.“Really?”
