It was a room on the second floor of a villa. 

The clothes were scattered all over the floor, and a torn black silk stocking hung on the sofa. 

Nikolas leaned against the headboard after sex and puffed on a cigarette with satisfaction. 

Besides Nikolas, the woman looked happy as her face was warmly colored. 

The phone vibrated. Nikolas casually answered the call after a puff of his cigarette.

Makhi respectfully said, “Nikolas, the Logan family just held a press conference and announced the cancellation of the engagement between Mariela and Lennon. Additionally, rumors are circulating online that Lennon was seen entering a hotel with a female celebrity. He is said to have cheated on Mariela.” 

Hearing this, Nikolas sneered.“I overestimated him. He turns out to be a playboy like his dad.” 

Makhi asked, “The Logan family…” 

Nikolas lowered his gaze and pondered for a moment.“Keep watching on them. This cancellation may be fake, and the announcement may be a trick to fool me.”

Mariela took one day off to collect herself. Later, she went to work as usual. 

In the past few days, the Logan family had led a quiet and peaceful life, and nothing unusual happened. 

Mariela sneered with bitterness. There was a benefit to breaking up with Lennon. At least, the insane Nikolas wouldn’t hurt Mariela or her family anymore. 

Mariela walked into the law firm, and her colleagues greeted her. 

Mariela politely responded with a faint smile. Wearing black leather shoes, she walked into her office. 

The dress code for the law firm was business attire, including black leather shoes. Mariela in black had her long hair tied in a bun, her dark circles covered with concealer, and her complexion brightened with the vintage red lipstick. She looked much better than she had two days ago, and nobody would suspect she had just experienced a heartbreak. 

Mariela got down to work shortly after her supervisor gave her three new cases. 

Her supervisor was Lyla after Skyla had quit. 

Lyla had no personal grudges against Mariela, and she didn’t target Mariela at the instigation of others. Therefore, Mariela had a better work environment than before. 

That day, Mariela worked overtime to get her job done. When she turned off the lights to leave, she heard a low sob come from outside her office. 

Frowning, she walked out of her office and closed the door behind her. 

The sob came from the district where the paralegals worked.
