Fiona didn’t suspect a thing and easily fell for it. She mentioned the name of a bar. 

*Alright, you spend some quality time with Marie tonight. I’ll pick you up later. And don’t drink too much, or you’ll have a headache and stomachache again.” 

“Alright, I got it, stop nagging.” 

Hanging up the phone, Darryl shrugged.“All set. We’ll head to Velvet Night in twenty minutes.”

Originally, Mariela had no plans for the evening. She was just going to have dinner, stay at home, watch some TV, and then go to sleep. 

Not long after dinner, she got a call from Fiona, inviting her out for a drink. 

During the day, Mariela had been busy with work to avoid thinking about Lennon. 

But as night fell, the longing grew wildly and her heart felt heavy. It was hard to breathe. 

Heartbreak was like a serious illness, with no cure in sight. The only way to numb oneself was drinking. 

Mariela needed to get her feelings out. 

The white McLaren cut through the winter night fog like a ghost. 

Outside Velvet Night, there was a collection of luxury cars. 

Mariela tossed the car keys to the attendant and stepped up the stairs in her suede high heels, walking into the bar. 

It was II p.m., and the nightlife was just getting started. The bar was packed, lights flashing and music loud. On the central dance floor, people were dancing wildly, lost in the beat and swaying with each other. 

This place was all about ambiguity and indulgence. 

Mariela walked in, the noisy chatter and music making her frown. 

She didn’t quite like such occasions. 

“Marie, over here!” Fiona waved at her, with Caylee standing beside her. 

Mariela walked over and Fiona led her to the bar where she sat down on a high stool.“Leo, three mojitos, please,” Fiona ordered. 

The bartender smilingly nodded. Then he skillfully started to mix the drinks.
