After securing the deal with BrightPath Group, Alan had a few drinks at lunchtime and as soon as he returned to the hotel, he fell asleep. 

In the afternoon, Marie had nothing to do and could move freely. 

Illinois, located along the coast, was a famous tourist city. 

The hotel where Marie lived was by the seaside, offering a great view. At a glance, there was the azure sea and the golden beach. 

The temperature soared to 86 degrees Fahrenheit in the afternoon. 

Marie lounged in the hotel and rested for the entire afternoon. As the sun was about to set, she changed into a cool tank top and shorts, applied sunscreen, put on sunglasses, and headed to the beach. 

The beaches belonged to the hotel and were not open to the public, so there weren’t many people. 

Marie sat down on the chair under the large umbrella, took off her sunglasses, and gazed at the boundless sea, letting her thoughts wander. 

A red sun hung where the sea met the sky. Clouds glowed orange–red, their edges tipped with gold. The water shimmered like spilled orange soda sprinkled with glitter, sparkling and dreamlike. 

A sea breeze laced with a hint of briny scent drifted in, chasing away the lingering heat. Marie leaned back on the lounge chair, leisurely enjoying the sunset, feeling relaxed and content. She had been working non–stop these days. It had been a long time since she felt so relaxed. “Hey gorgeous, here alone?” Marie had just sat down for a short while when a man approached to strike Marie kept her face blank, not even looking his way.“Married with two kids. Husband’s back at the hotel with them.” The man, upon hearing Marie’s words, not only did not leave but also became more excited.

Marie turned a deaf ear. 

The man took another step forward and got very close to Marie’s recliner.“Your husband isn’t here. Can I play with you?” 

Marie’s disgusted gaze fell upon the man.“Go away.”
