After getting off the plane, Hailie waited at the exit for Mariela to pick her up. 

She stood in the cold wind for half an hour, but Mariela was nowhere to be seen. Finally, she took out her phone and called Mariela. However, a mechanical female voice responded that the number she had dialed was no longer in service. 

Hailie wondered, “Why does the number suddenly become invalid? Just an hour ago, we were still in contact.”
