Chapter 455
Marie opened the driver’s door, got in, fastened her seatbelt, and took out her phone to make a call. “Help me pull up the internal business records of the Herman Group.”
Mariela’s eyes were cold, her fair and slender fingers tapping rhythmically on the steering wheel.
“Also, find a reliable private detective, I want to investigate Jaime.
“Yes, Ms. Logan.”
After hanging up, Marie casually tossed her phone onto the passenger seat, stepped on the gas, and the car drove off.
Dusk fell, and the city lights began to glow.
During the evening rush hour, the roads were jam–packed, the black Rolls–Royce Phantom hidden in an endless line of traffic.
The traffic jam was frustrating and irritating.
Just then, the phone rang, and Mariela picked it up to look.
It was Lennon’s call.
After the breakup, Mariela still kept Lennon’s phone number, but it hadn’t appeared in her call log for a long time.
She originally didn’t want to answer Lennon’s call, but then she thought it might be related to Angel, so after a moment of hesitation, she answered.
Her tone was cold and distant,“Hello, what’s the matter?”
“The police just called and said they are discussing a plan with the Italian police to rescue Angel.”
Marie’s heart trembled, and her breathing quickened,“Are they confident?”
Lennon paused, and his cool voice came through the phone, “Regarding this, the police can’t give any guarantees.”
How could Mariela not know?
It was just that it concerned her sister’s life, so she couldn’t help but ask.
After a moment of silence, Mariela asked again,“Is there anything else?”
Lennon was silent for a moment, his slightly hoarse voice came through the phone, “Marie, I…”
Mariela had a feeling that what Lennon was about to say wasn’t related to Angel, so she said, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up.”
“Wait.” Lennon quickly spoke, “Marie, I’m sorry about what Bella said to you earlier at my house. I apologize on her behalf, I’m sorry.”
Mariela was silent.
She looked up through the windshield at the endless line of cars, her gaze unfocused.
If she said she felt nothing about what Bella said, she wouldn’t believe it herself.
The person on the other end of the phone was also silent.
It seemed like he was waiting for her

response.
Marie slightly lowered the car window to let the air circulate.
The cold wind from outside rushed in, and her stifled chest could finally breathe normally.
