Lennon’s dark eyes were deep. Sadness welled up in them. “Because of me? 

“I’m sorry,” Lennon said in a low voice.“Before the prime ministerial election in Italy, I prepared everything I flew to Italy myself to deal with Nikolas. The plan was perfect, but there was a traitor among my people. They tipped off Nikolas. He found a scapegoat to stay in Italy, while he changed his appearance and escaped through an underground passage. 

“My people, along with the Italian government, wiped out Nikolas’s power in Italy. We thought he was dead, and Marie wouldn’t be in danger from him anymore. So I got close to Marie again. 

“Nikolas’s finished. His armed forces are either dead or surrendered. He’s got no chance of making a comeback. This time, he’s at the end of the line. He came back to America to get revenge on me and wanted to die with me. The two thugs who hurt Marie were his subordinates who escaped with him. He told them to kill Marie, while Nikolas brought people to deal with 

me.” 

After Lennon finished, Deandre noticed that Lennon was hurt too. 

He was wearing a black shirt, and it wasn’t easy to see the blood splattered on it. 

Blood was dripping onto the back of his hand. The bright red blood stood out against his fair skin, making a strong contrast. 

Gia noticed too. 

She didn’t get all the talk about Nikolas and the Italian forces, but she knew the thugs who attacked them weren’t ordinary. No wonder they had guns. 

“Mr. Stark, you’re hurt. Go see a doctor and get it taken care of,” Gia said, startled when she saw Lennon’s bloody hands. 

Lennon shook his head. “I’m staying here with Marie.” 

“Lennon.” Deandre’s eyes were bloodshot, and he glared at Lennon. Every word came out full of resentment, like it was squeezed out between his teeth. 

“If Marie can’t…” Deandre said with difficulty. 

Deandre paused, then gritted his teeth and said, “Even if I have to lose everything, I’ll make your Stark family pay!” 

“Nikolas’s been taken away by the police,” Lennon said, looking down.“This time, he really can’t get away.”
