“Poisoned?” Rayne was stunned, scarcely able to believe what she heard. 

The doctor spouted a bunch of technical terms, which left Rayne bewildered. 

The doctor then re–explained it in a simpler language, and Rayne finally got it. 

Royce had been poisoned with a slow–acting poison. This poison dissolved in water, was colorless and odorless. Small, occasional doses wouldn’t cause obvious symptoms. But over time, it would seep into the vital organs and eventually prove fatal. 

While Mariela was still in the throes of rescue, Royce was rushed back into the emergency room. 

After getting the hospital’s critical condition notice, Rayne signed it, feeling completely dazed. 

Some details started to crystalize in her mind. 

Rayne had noticed Royce’s rather severe hair loss lately. 

But she didn’t think much of it, just assuming it was due to his age. After all, many men of this 

suffered from significant hair loss, some even going bald.

His appetite had been waning, dark circles were becoming more prominent, and he seemed listless and haggard. 

Rayne saw all this but didn’t pay it any mind. 

After all, their relationship had soured more than twenty years ago when Royce cheated on her. Since then, it had remained stagnant, with just a pretense of peace. 

Royce, too, had been feeling increasingly unwell recently. 

Lately, the group’s affairs have been hectic. Although Robert had handed over power to Lennon, Royce still held the position of CEO of the Stark Group. 

As the CEO, he couldn’t help but be concerned about the company’s matters. 

Like Rayne, he thought the hair loss was age–related, and the loss of appetite, insomnia, and random body aches was due to overwork and lack of rest. 

Royce had planned to get a full–body check–up after the busy period, but unfortunately, he couldn’t hold out that long. 

The matter of Royce’s poisoning was serious. Rayne called and informed Robert and Bella. 

After Royce’s poisoning diagnosis, Rayne quickly arranged for a medical examination for herself. Some test results came out quickly, but for blood tests, fasting blood was required. So, she had to wait until tomorrow morning after an overnight fast. 

Bella also came to the hospital to schedule a physical examination. 

Robert, who was in Washington, couldn’t return immediately. So, Rayne could only talk to him on the phone.
