“Poisoned? How could this happen?” Robert’s tone was grave, 

Rayne frowned, gripping her phone tightly.“I don’t know either. He mostly eats at home. Mom and I are fine with the food. Only Royce got poisoned I suspect it might be related to Nikolas. Lauryn used to work for him, and now Royce’s poisoned Lauryn is the prime suspect” 

On the other end, Robert was silent for a moment. 

After a while, Robert spoke. 

“Call the police, his voice oozing authority. 

“Okay,” Rayne replied. 

Robert then said firmly, I’ll apply to come back to New York. I want to meet Nikolas and Lauryn in person.” 

Bella, who was standing next to Rayne, heard Lauryn’s name as the prime suspect. Instantly, she was displeased. 

After Rayne hung up, Bella glared at her, her tone laced with anger.“Don’t talk nonsense! Lauryn was just misled by Nikolas. She’s not a bad person. She couldn’t have poisoned Royce. He’s her father. How could she do such a thing? 

Rayne was silent for a moment, then said impatiently, “Mom, you’re way too indulgent with Lauryn. Even when she’s involved in criminal acts, you still defend her. She’s already been murders and cover–ups. What’s stopping her from poisoning a non–blood–related foster father?” 

“No! Impossible!” Bella shook her head vehemently. “Lauryn wouldn’t poison Royce. She wouldn’t!” 

Bella had some doubts, but she just couldn’t accept it.

She kept shaking her head, muttering to herself, not sure if she was trying to convince Rayne or herself. 

How could she accept that the granddaughter she’d raised had poisoned her son? 

Rayne shook her head helplessly, gave Bella a cold look, and left without another word. 

Rayne called the prison and arranged a visit. 

If her suspicion was right, Lauryn would face another charge, intentional homicide. 

She had to confront this ungrateful adopted daughter. 

After a long wait, the emergency room door finally opened. 

Lennon, Bryce, and Deandre all spoke up at once. 

Lennon asked, “Doctor, how’s Marie?” 

Bryce asked, “Doctor, what’s her condition?”
