We pulled away in a split second and rushed towards our agreed spots. Bright had instructed me to stay in a room and avoid direct contact with both parties. They would be angry at me for being one of the reasons for the break-up.

So, I went to the nearest guest room and locked the door. The voice of his mom outside made me realize his parents had arrived.

“You better not embarrass us more, Bright!”

Her spiteful voice was laced with bitterness, she was upset with her son.

“We gave you a lot of chances for the betterment of our family, but you have no respect for our decisions.

Have you learned this at university?”

“Relax, dear!”

That icy, masculine voice belonged to Bright’s dad. He sounded like a calm and collected man as he said,

“We are here, dear. Let’s solve the matters through dialogues. Emotions aren’t the answer to everything.”

Shortly after Bright parents, the Lockwood family graced us with its presence. Mr. Lockwood came to the point right after the formal greetings.

“Bright, we have come here on your request. What do you wish to say?”

That calculative, business executive’s tone dried my throat, I prayed for my fiancé in my heart. He was like my dad, cold and rigid. Hopefully, Bright had prepared well according to his nature.

My fiancé’s respectful tone slithered into my ears as he initiated the conversation.

“Thank you so much for honoring my invitation. As your time is precious, I won’t beat around the bush.”

Bright paused for a second, making me feel a cold pit in my stomach, and spoke dramatically.

“The thing is, I have met Sienna. She is a wonderful young lady. Anyone who will marry her will be a fortunate person.

I respect her, but she isn’t the one I am eager to spend my life with. There is another woman in my heart.”

The pin-drop silence following his words broke out cold sweat on my forehead. Bright openly expressed his love to prove his point.

“Laura Green is the one I love and adore. She is a talented business lady with unrivaled beauty. I can’t even think about another woman after loving her.

He questioned his peers, speaking in an earnest tone.

“Kids have definitely made a mistake in turning down the marriage proposal, but they didn’t take any rash steps to disrespect us.

I think it’s enough to forgive them.”

However, Mr. Lockwood wasn’t impressed by this development. He spoke curtly.

“Going against your parents’ words is bound to go south. How can they throw away a serious partnership only because they don’t feel like marrying each other?

Is life a joke for them?”

It turned out that Sienna’s family was finding it impossible to accept her identity, clinging to the marriage alliance like it would solve all their problems. Sienna cried out in desperation.

“Sorry, dad. But I am not refusing for mere feelings. It’s who I am!
