"What the hell is wrong with him?"

I blurted out a curse word in a fit of anger and bit my tongue, looking around anxiously. Cursing at an auspicious event wasn’t noble to begin with.

However, no one paid attention to me as someone else was providing them free entertainment, causing a scene at my engagement party. His Oscar winning acting glued the audience to their spots as he cried woefully.

"Laura, you can’t do this to me. I am the one you love!"

Well, that uninvited guest required no introduction, his fame for jeopardizing my life was an undeniable truth. I couldn’t help but feel disgusted to see Leo barging into the hall. Wrinkled t-shirt, messed up hair, and pale face, he looked like a walking zombie due to dark circles around his eyes. He was definitely drunk as his slurred speech supported this notion.

"I can’t live without you, Laura. Please don’t leave me."

I recoiled in horror as my terrified gaze fell on Bright’s mom. Her stern face changed color between red and green to witness the drama at this private event. Getting embarrassed in front of immediate family and close friends was too much for her. She rolled her eyes at me.

"I told my son to be aware of this woman. But no!

Kids these days won’t listen to their parents."

Her furious tone broke the trance of my beloved fiancé like a thousand wings clapped beside his ear, shaking his body. He lunged forward and grabbed Leo’s collar.

"What are you doing here, Leo? Get out. You aren’t invited here."

Leo wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and shot back at Bright.

"I am here to see my Laura. You can’t stop me."

With that, he pushed him away with full force and staggered towards me.

"Laura, baby, please listen to me. I have fixed my behavior and doing things differently now.

You can trust me with your heart again. I won’t disappoint you."

I clenched my fists, fuming at his obvious lies as he was behaving rudely like before, destroying my happy moments with his nuisance. It was so shameful for me to accept that I once fell in love with this man. He was so full of himself.

Bright tried to stop Leo, but he reacted violently and kept moving forward. His claims of profound yearning converted into begging for forgiveness as he advanced with his regret speech.

"I know I have hurt you, Laura. Please forgive me for that. I was an idiot to think that your feelings don’t matter in our relationship.

It was all my fault. I am so sorry!"

The rivers of despair flowed out of his red puffy eyes, making my kids uncomfortable. Jane and Zoe rushed to my side and held my hands.

"Mommy, why is dad crying? Does someone hurt him?"

Their queries left me aghast, diverting my attention to the more pressing issues. I comforted my kids instantly.

"Dad has gotten something in his eyes. That’s why he is crying. Why don’t you go with Mrs. Doris and have some cake?

She has prepared a chocolate forest cake for you."

It was a futile attempt to cover up this situation, my kids weren’t so young that they couldn’t understand the gist of the problem. So, I warned Leo.

"You and I had parted our ways five years ago when you chose to cheat on me, Leo. I faced death and lost my son to your mistress just because you ignored my devotion for years.

There’s nothing left in that tormenting companionship of the past. We are officially done!"

I deliberately narrated the story of my painful past to come clean before Bright’s mom, she wasn’t aware of the reason for my first divorce. It was pivotal to her to know that I wasn’t a standard single mom, prying on notable wealthy men for a secure future.

Bright was indeed the love of my life, he introduced me to the term love, respecting me as well which was unheard in a relationship. I wanted to show her that I would never break her son’s heart.

My clear rejection also left a great impact on Aaron, who realized the severity of the situation and made amendments for his blunder.

"See, Leo!

Laura has told you about her decision. Now, you must accept it and wish her best like a gentleman.

One shouldn’t be too greedy!"

He walked forward and tapped his shoulder, eyeing him to stop fighting and lectured like a persuasive speaker.
