The feeling of distress in my gut was soul crushing, but staying calm was the need of the hour. I couldn’t afford to waste time in unnecessary thoughts of being scared or panicked. So, my business lady mode was activated when I attempted to deal with this issue fearlessly,

“How much money do you want? I can pay in millions. Please take your money and let me go.”

As most kidnappings were for ransom, my first guess about their motive was money. They must have noticed a new female in the business community, and seized the opportunity to make quick bucks in one night.

But their silence in response baffled me, they ignored me like I wasn’t present in the car. Then it occurred to me, “I have offered less money.”

My company had several branches across the country, so they must be expecting a hefty amount for abducting the CEO directly. This silence was a method of gaining a large sum of money by scaring me.

Without wasting more time, I doubled the offer as I had to go to meet Melody as swiftly as possible.

“I can pay tens of millions. Name your price and money will be paid in minutes. You can use cryptocurrency for safety as well. I will never tell the police ...”

My money talk was disregarded as usual; however, the law enforcement agencies got a reaction from them. But a bad one!

They stuffed a piece of cloth in my mouth and gagged me, shutting the only door of negotiation. I shuddered uncontrollably. What should I do now?

The fear swirled in my guts as my heart raced, I was helpless before those burly goons. Due to darkness, I was unable to see where we were going. The bumpy ride indicated that the car wasn’t racing on the main road.

Still, I kept my emotions checked in this jeopardy, looking for a chance to strike a deal with them. I was new in Lakon city, so ransom was the only thing which justified the situation.

I was waiting for the gag to be removed for negotiations when the car came to a grating stop.

Without a word, they yanked me out and walked inside a rundown building in the middle of nowhere, this creepy scene froze the very breath in my mouth. I tried to stay calm, but my heart was pounding against my chest as they didn’t give me a second to fight and tied me to a chair, starting their weird activities.

A goon brought paint bottles, and they painted strange symbols all around. Then they crossed all the limits of foolishness and doused the place with gasoline. A chill ran down my spine as the combined smell of gasoline and paint sucked all the air from my lungs, leaving me breathless. I could hardly focus on their words when someone set up a camera before me and said,

“Our ritual is going to be a hit, brother. People will love it.”

However, I wasn’t Laura Green of the past now!

The pain barely registered. I spat blood, tasting iron and defiance.

And then I smirked.

"You idiots," I rasped, my voice hoarse yet sharp. "You think people want to watch this? A low-budget, amateur sacrifice?"

That got their attention.

One of them hesitated, exchanging an uneasy glance with the other.

"Pathetic," I added, my grin widening. "You’re not making a hit. You’re making a joke."
