Bright sighed, exhaling the white smoke, his grim expressions said more than his words. It was a fact that his feelings were hurt, he must be thinking that I was a terrible person.

However, it was never my intention to break anyone’s heart, I was merely looking for a remedy for the lacerations deep in my soul.

Thankfully, Bright was a sensible man, he didn’t behave aggressively. Instead, he listened to my perspective and nodded, his query was more than a request.

"Can I see Jane, Laura?"

"Oh, yeah. Why not?" Cracking my knuckles, I soothed my twitching fingers and took him to my little girl’s room. Jane was peacefully sleeping in her bed.

Without making any noise, he sat beside her, and caressed her head gently.

"Jane Bright, an ice hockey player!"

The medals and certificates of my daughter puffed his chest with pride, Bright observed all the pictures in her room and spoke.

"Only my blood can be an overachiever at such a young age. How can I miss that?"

As Jane changed her sleeping posture, we both flinched, fearful of disturbing her slumber. Bright immediately grabbed my hand, and walked out of her room. I felt my heart sinking to hear his reaction to this disclosure.

Following him like a lost puppy, I was wildly predicting his next question when he spoke out of the blue.

"I think Jane should have a brother to play with, Laura."

"What?" My eyebrows shot up, forming a high arch of astonishment, I found it hard to understand the meaning of Bright’s words.

"What do you mean to say, Bright?" Staring at him wide-eyed, I demanded an explanation.

A lovely smile stretching Bright’s lips reached his eyes, sparkling them like stars as he finally softened up.

"I hadn’t thought about marriage before, but now I would like to be an official part of yours and Jane’s life, Laura."

My heart rate hitched, swaying my soul with the honesty of his tone, this was the best outcome I could ever have. But still, I composed myself and spoke cautiously.

"I didn’t mean to baby trap you, Bright. You are a gentleman, and deserve much more than me.

I won’t force you for anything you don’t want …"

My nonstop speech was cut short by Bright’s warm touch, he placed his hands in my cheeks lovingly.

"You are the best thing that ever happened to me in my whole life, Laura.

She has joined us today to shed light on this issue."

This brief intro was just a ground set for me as the owner had promised not to ask any question from me. I could say whatever I wanted to say in my defense. So, I spoke humbly.

"Thank you so much for allowing me to use your platform. It wasn’t easy for me to come out and discuss my painful past in front of the public."

Remembering the moments of despair, I blinked away tears pooling in my eyes and said,

"Laura Green wasn’t a successful businesswoman from the start. She was just a housewife whose dreams weren’t different from a common married woman: A loving husband, warm home, and kids.

I didn’t ask for much. I just wished to be the only woman in my husband’s life."

The scenes of Melody walking out of Leo’s room in a bikini cut through my heart as I sniffled.

"But unfortunately, all my dreams were crushed by my ex-husband’s betrayal.

Leo was a perfidious partner, he and his girlfriend didn’t miss any chance, and tortured me to death.

You all must have heard how Melody tormented me and then blackmailed Doctor Max."
