My breath hitched as I took in the sight before me.

Red roses and white lilies adorned every corner of the living room, their delicate fragrance mingling in the air. A handmade banner, crafted with shaky crayon strokes and smudged watercolor splashes, stretched across the wall—

"Mommy Weds Daddy!"

My cheeks burned. My lips parted, but no words came out. Was this real?

“Mommy, can you please marry my daddy?”

Jane’s sweet voice yanked me out of my daze, just as a burst of glitter rained from above. Zoe clapped gleefully, her excited giggles filling the room.

“We surprised Mommy! Yay!”

Then came the soft melody of a symphony playing in the background, and Bright stepped out, his eyes locked on mine, a tender smile dancing on his lips.

My heartbeat went erratic.

And then—he went down on one knee.

“Laura,” his voice was low, almost trembling with emotion.

“You are my home. My peace. My greatest love story."

He opened a small black velvet box, revealing a sparkling diamond ring, carefully chosen, undoubtedly carrying pieces of our journey.

“I don’t just want to be your husband, Laura. I want to be your partner in every storm, your safe place in every chaos. I want us to build a life where love always wins."

"Will you marry me?”

My hand flew to my mouth to stifle an involuntary scream, the tears of happiness burned my eyes. This flawless effort, romantic ambiance, and detailed proposal fluttered my heart like butterfly wings, making me swoon. I was on cloud nine to be treated with so much love.

My kids, this home, and my considerate partner who wanted to be my family, not just a husband, hadn’t left any room for discussion. I was awestruck by his preparations when Zoe and Jane picked up a basket full of red rose petals with a black jewelry box.

Bright opened that box, revealing a beautiful diamond ring in it.

“That’s what we have selected as a token of our affection, Laura. I know it should be more than that, but please accept our proposal.

We will do our best to compensate for it in the future.”

Jane and Zoe stood beside him, becoming his team members, Bright spoke on his team’s behalf.

The kids didn’t take much time to adjust with a new person. Well, Bright was like that, an easygoing person with a hypnotic personality, no one could resist charm at all. I gladly stretched my hand for him.

“It’s a yes!

I would love to marry you, Bright.”

It looked like someone was arguing with my staff. The duty guards reported it to me as I walked outside.

“Ma’am, an ambulance is here!

Driver says that he is ordered to park it inside the Villa.”

Ambulance at my Villa?

This unusual occurrence bamboozled me as I hadn’t called any ambulance for an emergency. But my curiosity got the best of me, so I granted him permission.

“Ok!

Let it in!”

The gates of my Villa were opened for that ambulance without its wailing sirens, that was a sign that it wasn’t for any emergency here. However, the gravity of the situation sank in when a nurse helped a man in a wheelchair to come out of that hospital wagon, showing me stars in the daytime.

That stupid was none other than Leo, who had bribed his doctors to sneak out of the hospital in the middle of his recovery.

He was stubborn, I got it. But when did he become so crazy that he forgot to take care of himself? As for the record, Leo loved himself only, his selfishness was his signature trait.

It was so out of his character, so far from what I knew of him, that I just stared at him open-mouthed. My brain formulated no thoughts other than to register that I was hell shocked as he said,

“You can’t kick me out of your life in this way, Laura. I know I have disappointed you, but why can’t you give me one chance to prove my love for you?”
