Allie Wilford believed that Zayn was not as cold as he seemed to be.
If Allie knew that Zayn only helped her that night because he was afraid of the repercussions for Lindsey if something really were to happen, then she probably would not have this thought.
When she recalled how carefully Zayn took care of Lindsey earlier, the sweetness in Allie's heart soon turned bitter.
If news of this lavish dinner party at the top floor of the Imperial Hotel attended by Zayn Guggenheim himself got out, the stocks of Denarius and Wilford Corporation would rise even further.
"Feeling better?" When Allie returned to the banquet hall, Lindsey hurriedly went up to her with concern. She had always treated and cared for Allie as a sister.
Allie smiled at her, so Lindsey did not see anything odd about her. “I’m fine, much better now.”
As she said this, she inadvertently glanced towards Zayn and found him staring at Lindsey.
"Mr. Guggenheim, Mr. Quentin, we’ll make a move first." Lindsey was very polite. This signified that they were not familiar with each other anymore.
Zayn did not move, nor did he speak, so Quentin smiled and said, “Young Ma...Ms. Juhl, take care and have a good night. Should I send you out?”
Quentin almost called her "Young Madam".
Lindsey pretended not to have heard his slip of the tongue and refused Quentin's kind offer. The colleagues she came with had already left and they were the last ones to leave.
Before leaving, Allie could not help but glance at Zayn again, but this time, the man's gaze was not on Lindsey. Rather, he was looking away, seemingly in deep thought.
Lindsey stole a glance at Zayn. He was unusually quiet tonight. None of the scenarios she imagined even happened, which made her wonder if Zayn was preparing for something bigger.
This quiet Zayn was not at all like the Zayn she used to know.
The man still did not move even after she left.
"President, let's leave as well." Only the two of them were left in the banquet hall and the huge venue suddenly felt quite empty.
Zayn did not say anything, but he walked towards the elevator.
Quentin hurriedly followed along. The feeling of rapid descent in the elevator made him feel a little dizzy for a moment. Suddenly, he asked, "President, why don't you explain it to the Young Madam?"
Even he was able to see Lindsey's attitude towards Zayn, so Zayn himself must have been more aware. This matter could also be clearly explained.
They were a married couple who should have the closest relationship aside from blood relations, but half a year later, they were as good as strangers.
"There’s no need." As always, this was Zayn’s typical answer.
Quentin sighed and said, "How can there be no need for explanation? If you don’t tell her, she’ll never know and will keep blaming you."
This time, there was finally a change in the man's tone. It sounded almost like a sigh. "She won't believe me."
Lindsey would not believe him and would even think that this was another one of his ploys, so he needed to buy some time. Even if it meant using this insanely dumb way, he wanted to bring her closer to himself.
Quentin quietly lowered his head and decided to keep the fact that he gave Lindsey information regarding Jenny Lenig’s whereabouts to himself.
The Wilford Residence.
Allie listened to her men's report and her delicate eyebrows gradually furrowed.
"You’re saying that Lindsey and Zayn are married?"
She suddenly opened her eyes and looked through the rearview mirror to the back.
It was after work hours and there were a lot of cars on the road. Lindsey looked for a while and noticed that there was indeed a car that was trailing them. No matter which intersection their driver turned to, the car behind them could quickly catch up.
"Ms. Juhl, should I find a way to ditch it?"
"No need." Lindsey had already recognized whose car it was. She was all too familiar with that flashy license plate.
She wanted to see what Zayn wanted to do.
Allie also noticed the car following behind. She already knew about most things about Zayn on the surface, but she pretended to be clueless and asked, “Who’s following us? Lindsey, do you recognize them?”
There was no longer a trace of fatigue on Lindsey’s face at the moment. She nodded slightly and replied, "Yes."
However, she did not mention who it was.
She did not want Allie to think too much about it. After all, it had nothing to do with her. However, Allie felt that Lindsey was hiding something from her.
Her fingers clenched her purse strap tightly as she lowered her head, pretending to be innocent. This concealed the gloom in her eyes.
The car soon arrived at Opal Suites. Lindsey got out of the car, said goodbye to Allie, and turned to walk inside.
Lindsey did not notice that after she left, the woman in the car behind her stopped smiling.
Allie watched as the silver car that was following them stopped nearby. When she saw the tall man getting out of the car, her expression turned darker.
