Lindsey felt that everything had gone off track, especially Zayn's attitude towards her, time and time again.

What was he up to?

Lindsey did not want to admit that she was a little moved by Zayn's recent attitude, but her heart was flustered because of what he had said and done.

She reached out and rubbed her neck, trying to relax her nerves. This split second was when the accident occurred.

"BOOM!"

The deafening sound of cars colliding resounded through the sky in an instant.

Lindsey's entire body shook vigorously and she lost all consciousness.

Zayn stood at the door of the Guggenheim mansion until he felt a slight chill, then he walked into the house.

"Young Master, your phone is ringing." A maid held up the phone and hurriedly ran to Zayn.

A call this late at night was usually not a good sign.

Zayn was a little annoyed. The phone in his hand was still chiming with the soothing ringtone. He picked it up and glanced at the caller ID, then all of a sudden, his face changed drastically.

......

The noises of people, cars, and children's loud cries became entangled as they resounded in Lindsey’s ears.

Lindsey tried to keep her eyes open, but when she tried to lift her eyelids, it seemed to pull her whole face and it hurt. She could only see vaguely through tiny slits and the things around her kept receding. There was a blinding white light.

It hurt all over. This familiar pain made Lindsey feel like screaming.

"Lindsey, don’t be afraid. It's okay. Everything will be fine. I’ll be by your side." The man's voice sounded very convincing as it echoed gently in her ears.

"Zayn..." Lindsey could tell that it was Zayn's voice. She thought that she was hallucinating from the pain.

Lindsey was not aware that her face was covered in tears as Zayn tightly clasped her palm. She only thought that her hallucination was so vivid this time that even his touch felt real, and that was quite terrifying.

"It's me. I'm right here," Zayn said softly as if he did not want to startle the person lying on the gurney. Lindsey's face was covered in blood, but he did not even dare to raise his hand to wipe it away.

Seeing the tears on her face, Zayn's heart ached and he felt powerless.

"Lindsey, I promise you’ll be fine." He was obviously saying this to comfort Lindsey, but it also felt like he was comforting himself. In the end, he could not control his emotions and his gentle voice faltered.

"Zayn...it hurts..."

Lindsey was completely unable to distinguish between illusion and reality. She gritted her teeth as tears kept flowing down the side of her face into her jet black hair. She could not bear the bone-crushing pain she felt all over her body. Her nerves were firing rapidly, so it took a while for her to feel numb.

"Excuse me, the patient needs emergency surgery. Please wait outside." The nurse's voice was stern as she blocked Zayn at the door to the operating room.

Zayn only had time to hold Lindsey's palm a little tighter before the small palm suddenly detached from his hand.

For a moment, the two of them felt empty inside.

Zayn had never felt time pass so excruciatingly slow as that night because two of the most important people in his life were lying weak not far away from each other in this city.

His fingers were clenched into a fist and his eyes were bloodshot.

The surgery lasted until almost dawn. Fortunately, there were no mishaps.

Zayn waited in the corridor. When he saw Lindsey being pushed out of the operating room, his eyes instantly lit up.

The lead surgeon was ready to have a good chat with Zayn about Lindsey’s condition, but he saw this and silently swallowed his words.

The long night finally passed.

When Lindsey woke up, the sunlight hit her face through the gap in the window.

"Ouch." She was still a little confused and tried to raise her hand when she felt a sharp pain.

The moment she opened her eyes, there was also a tearing pain on her brow bone.

Lindsey thought for a moment before recalling that she seemed to have been in a car accident last night.

The pain on her body was in such proximity to each other that she could not tell which part hurt the most.

Lindsey did not know who sent her to the hospital. She was thinking hard when she saw the door of the ward being gently pushed open.

Then, the man's gaze met hers.

Zayn seemed to be delighted that she was awake. The gloom in his eyes faded, but this joy was quickly replaced by another look that Lindsey could not comprehend. She only felt that Zayn in this current state was very odd.

"I..." Lindsey wanted to ask what was going on. Why would Zayn be here?

Zayn had already walked to her hospital bed and looked as if he subconsciously wanted to hold her hand. However, his hand stopped mid-air as he suppressed this impulse. Instead, he turned to reach for the glass of water on the bedside table. He even avoided Lindsey's gaze as he asked, "How are you feeling?"
