Lindsey stayed cooped up at home for two whole days.
After Zayn left in anger that night, he never came to find Lindsey again, but every day, he had someone come knocking on Lindsey's door with a specially-prepared meal.
At first, Lindsey thought it was a mistake. She then realized that it was Zayn who sent it. If she did not open the door, the delivery person would just stand there and not leave. They even said that if she did not accept it, they would not be able to answer to Zayn.
Lindsey was helpless, so she finally took it.
All the dishes were her favorites. When Lindsey tasted them, she could tell that it was Mrs. Wendy's cooking.
What was Zayn up to?
Before Lindsey could figure this out, she received a call from Mrs. Wendy.
"Zayn said that you’re always home, so I brought you the extra dishes I made. The Old Master is alone and can’t eat much, so a lot of food goes to waste. Outside food isn’t clean or healthy, so I’ll have someone send meals to you every day after I’m done cooking."
Lindsey could not refuse her kindness.
Mrs. Wendy added, “You should come back home because it's not safe for a girl to live alone outside. I’ll be worried for you.”
Lindsey did not know how to reply to that. She brushed it off lightly and Mrs. Wendy did not insist. She only kept urging Lindsey to take good care of herself.
When Allie came to look for Lindsey that afternoon, she bumped into the Guggenheim family’s servant carrying a huge insulated lunch bag at the door.
Lindsey opened the door and picked up the bag.
After she thanked the other person, she invited Allie in.
"Did you order takeout?" Allie asked suspiciously.
"No, Aunt Wendy made this for me." Lindsey put the lunch bag on the table and casually said this as she took out the items inside.
"Who’s Aunt Wendy?"
It was then that Lindsey realized Allie did not know who Aunt Wendy was.
The hot dishes took up half of the table and looked very appetizing. Lindsey handed Allie some cutleries and said, "Aunt Wendy is a maid from the Guggenheim mansion. She’s a very nice elderly woman. Allie, come sit and try some."
Actually, Lindsey felt that it was inappropriate to call Mrs. Wendy a maid. She was more like a nice aunt.
Allie took the cutlery and continued to ask, "So Zayn asked someone to cook and send these to you?"
Lindsey was stunned and thought for a moment before she said, "No, it's just that Aunt Wendy was worried about me being alone outside, so she cooked extra for me."
However, Allie obviously did not believe her. How could a maid do such a thing without the master's order? When she considered this, her tone was tinged with a bit of jealousy as she said, "Zayn’s rather nice to you, huh?"
Lindsey did not understand how this had to do with Zayn being nice to her, but she felt that Allie's tone was a bit strange.
"Allie, what's wrong?" Lindsey asked.
Allie looked at Lindsey with wide eyes and was about to brush her off, but she suddenly thought of something and tears instantly welled up in her eyes. Allie’s voice even trembled when she said, “Lindsey, you must help me...”
Lindsey was startled and asked, "What's wrong? What happened?"
Allie looked like she was hiding something and lowered her gaze. She said softly, “I hid it from my family previously, so if I bring the bodyguards this time, they’ll definitely tell my brother. Lindsey, can you please go with me?"
She had a pleading look with tears all over her face, looking very pitiful. Lindsey crossed her arms, let out a long sigh, and put a hand on her forehead as if she had a headache.
"Lindsey, only you can help me now," Allie said and sounded like she was about to cry.
Lindsey did not know what to say and could not possibly leave her alone. In the end, she finally said helplessly, "Where’s the meeting?"
"Scarlet Club."
"Why don’t you ever learn?" Lindsey wanted to nag at Allie. The last time Allie went to the club, she was almost taken advantage of, yet she still dared to go to that kind of place alone.
Allie did not know how to refute and no longer had an appetite.
After Lindsey asked Allie for the appointment time, she got rid of the Wilford family’s bodyguards around her. Only then did she secretly take Allie out.
Before leaving the house, Allie glanced at Lindsey's thin, cream-colored knitted cardigan and ripped jeans. She asked with a shocked expression, "Is this what you're wearing?"
Lindsey felt puzzled and asked, "Can't I wear this?" She even wore her office wear last time.
Allie looked a little guilty and quickly waved her hands. “It’s fine. You just look like a...student.”
The weather was not completely hot yet and was still somewhat chilly at night. Even though it was not too chilly, Lindsey was sensitive to the cold, so she would always dress warmer than others.
They drove to Scarlet Club and from the outside, Lindsey could already tell that the inside was filled with dazzling lights and drunken chaos.
