Zayn’s departing back still looked lonely and reserved as he held Lindsey, but the old man was still genuinely happy.
"It's great that they’re having a child!"
Zayn finally had a child of his own so he would have more familial ties. That way, he could finally live like a person of his age.
The old man was so immersed in the joy of holding his great-grandson that he did not notice the tension between Zayn and Lindsey. It was not until he calmed down a bit that he thought of something, ‘Why was Lindsey carried back by Zayn? Didn't she say that she went on a vacation? Why did she suddenly come back? Did something happen?’
He had difficulty moving and wanted to order a maid to go up and ask, but he saw Zayn coming down the stairs.
Zayn’s sleeves were rolled up and his coat had been thrown somewhere to the side. While he walked, he ordered, “Yes, get a designer. We need to redesign the house. As soon as possible. It’s best if you can get them here today."
After he said that, Zayn hung up and sat down in front of the old man.
"Where’s Lindsey?"
Zayn looked down at the chessboard on the table, but his eyes were empty. "Upstairs."
He thought about hiding it from the old man or even secretly keeping Lindsey outside, but no matter where she was, Zayn would not feel at ease.
Lindsey's decision of not wanting this child left him enraged, yet he felt powerless. He knew it was impossible to keep watch over her every day.
He just hoped that with the old man around, Lindsey would not do anything to hurt the child.
Zayn was sitting quietly now, and only then did he have time to properly experience the feeling of becoming a father. It was strange. The child was obviously still unformed and he had not even seen the examination report. He had only learned about Lindsey’s pregnancy from others, but once he thought of that tiny unborn child, his heart was overflowing with emotions.
"Is it confirmed? How far along is Lindsey? Did Lindsey find out herself?" The old man only cared about his little great-grandson.
Zayn nodded with a reserved look. "Mm." However, his folded hands revealed that he was not as calm as he seemed to be.
A few minutes later, the maid led a group of doctors in white lab coats into the Guggenheim mansion's front door.
"They’re the doctors I hired," Zayn explained to the old man.
After saying that, he led them upstairs. Lindsey's health condition was not the best. Even when she was not pregnant, Zayn hardly felt at ease, not to mention now that there was a little one growing in her womb.
Lindsey was sitting on the edge of the bed. In just a few days, she had formed a habit of stroking her belly when she had nothing to do, but the fetus was still too small to give her any response.
She heard that a mother could feel her child’s movement during the fifth or sixth month of pregnancy, so she thought to herself, ‘Maybe I'll be lucky enough to have a chance to feel it.’
Lindsey was also wondering if the baby would look more like her or Zayn.
At that moment, there was a soft knock on the door. This was the rhythm that Zayn used when there were outsiders around. Lindsey withdrew her thoughts and said, "Come in."
In the next second, the person who opened the door led in a bunch of doctors and nurses behind him. Suddenly, the room was filled with people in lab coats.
The two of them glanced at each other then quickly looked away again.
The doctor said, "The Young Madam’s body is still very weak, so her pregnancy will be a little more difficult than others, but as long as you take good care of her nutrition, there won't be any major problems."
Lindsey suddenly became angry.
She paced back and forth in the room a few times because she was irritated by Zayn's words. Suddenly, familiar nausea surged up without a warning.
Almost as soon as Lindsey covered her mouth and rushed into the bathroom, Zayn had also put down the things in his hand and followed her.
Lindsey's morning sickness was particularly severe and she vomited everything she had just eaten. The feeling of her intestines being twisted and the irritation in her throat and nasal cavity tormented her at the same time.
When she straightened up with red eyes and tears in the corners of her eyes, the man who had been waiting behind her used a towel to carefully wipe her face clean, including the residue at the corners of her mouth.
Zayn was silent like he was just an illusion. He looked at her with heartache and asked, "Do you still feel like throwing up?"
"Don't..." Lindsey wanted to tell Zayn not to dirty his hands, but as soon as she opened her mouth, there was a strange taste in her mouth that made her clamp them shut again. She then reached out to take the towel from Zayn.
Zayn avoided her hand and wiped her face carefully. He asked again, "Do you still want to throw up?"
Lindsey shook her head woodenly.
Zayn brought over a glass of water and fed it to Lindsey. "Rinse your mouth."
Lindsey took a sip from his hand and the taste inside her mouth faded. When she opened her mouth again, she suddenly did not know what to say.
Since Lindsey felt that she was pregnant, her morning sickness had been tormenting her. Every day, she had to pretend to be fine in front of others until she was alone to be able to puke out all the discomfort.
