Shaun pinched the bridge of his nose. He had been standing in the dark for a long time. The afterglow of the sunset did not make his stiff limbs any warmer.
After watching the old housekeeper's scooter disappear from his sight, Shaun walked over to the dark corner in the small path and got into his car.
It seemed that there was nothing unusual, but Shaun still felt it strange for Allie to just leave like that.
Shaun turned the steering wheel slightly. He drove the car out of the neighborhood and was about to merge into the traffic when a casual glance at something caught his eye.
It was a woman with a mask and hat, wearing a black coat that covered her body completely.
Shaun frowned and did not hesitate to follow her when he saw that she hailed a taxi.
He kept a close eye on the taxi in front while he took out his phone to call Zayn.
When he took out his phone, besides the several missed calls, he also received a message from Yvette Wendell. Shaun quickly skimmed it and found that it was sent a few hours ago. It read, “My brother asked me to send you something. I delivered it to your office.”
Shaun did not take it to heart and thought about replying to Yvette later. He was in a bit of a hurry and did not notice that his phone battery in the upper right corner of the screen was already in the red.
He found Zayn’s number and called him while keeping an eye on the taxi in front.
"Pick up! Pick up!" Shaun was so tense that his palm was sweating profusely.
After ringing for a long time, no one answered.
"B*stard!" Shaun could not help but curse.
He was about to call again when the phone screen flashed and died.
Shaun’s fingers holding the steering wheel unconsciously clenched. He took a deep breath, but his gaze became more determined.
He was sure that the person earlier was definitely Allie Wilford.
The taxi in front of him was driving towards a more remote path, which made it more difficult to follow discreetly.
Shaun looked around the car and realized that he did not bring a charger. At that moment, he was incredibly frustrated.
The taxi driver looked at the woman that was tightly wrapped up in the back seat and felt a little uneasy. “Hey, what are you doing there alone at this time of night? It’s pretty secluded there.”
Allie glanced at him and said coldly, “Meeting someone.”
"It's so late and it won’t be easy to get a taxi back, so you should be careful." Even he felt that going there at night was creepy.
If not for the money she gave him, he would not even make this trip.
Allie did not care what the taxi driver thought of her and was deep in her own thoughts. When she arrived at the mental hospital, her car probably had not reached the airport yet. Even if Zayn found something wrong, he still would not be able to find her at the last minute.
They could then take advantage of this short time to transfer Lindsey away.
After she thought it through, Allie said impatiently, "Please drive faster."
The driver probably also saw that she had no intention to talk, so he shut up resentfully and increased his speed.
Shaun followed her up to one point and could already figure out where Allie was going with just a little thought.
"Okay. Follow her closely and keep an eye on the Wilford Residence as well. Make sure all the checkpoints in Atlantic City are stringent."
"Yes, sir!" Soren paused and handed him Zayn's phone. "Just now, Shaun Juhl called."
Zayn took his phone and saw that he called ten minutes ago. He originally did not want to care about it, but somehow, he pressed the call button.
However, Shaun's phone was switched off.
An inexplicable emotion surged up and Zayn ordered, "Get Shaun Juhl’s location."
......
The sky was dark as the last rays of the evening sun disappeared in the sky. Everywhere seemed to be covered with a dark shadow.
Allie Wilford got down at the entrance of the psychiatric hospital. After the taxi left, she looked around and did not go inside. Instead, she walked towards a more remote area.
Shaun had parked his car at the intersection when he entered the area and walked over. Fortunately, it was not too far and he could still keep up with Allie's steps.
The darkness was the best cover and Allie's figure almost merged with the dark surroundings.
The two walked one after the other. In a short while, Allie appeared at the door of the abandoned funeral home. She then knocked gently on the door three times.
Shaun watched as Allie went in. He lightened his footsteps and slowly approached.
When he was close enough, he could hear the faint sound of voices inside, and there were more than one of them.
