In this chapter of Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean, Internet introduces major changes to the story. Chapter 289 Was It Not Liam Wilford? shifts the narrative tone, revealing secrets, advancing character arcs, and increasing stakes within the Romance genre.
The two people were not far away from each other. Seeing that Liam still did not want to admit it, Zayn surprisingly no longer dwelled on this issue. In the next second, Zayn asked a question that surprised everyone, "I heard that your sister is back. Can I meet her?"
Liam was stunned and immediately objected, "No!"
"It's just a short meeting with an old acquaintance. Why are you so agitated?" Zayn showed a contemptuous smile.
Liam finally knew what Zayn was doing here. Zayn knew that he could not get an answer from Liam nor could he do anything to him, so he came to test the waters.
Of course, Allie Wilford was not at the mansion now. Liam arranged for Allie to be with Sophie in an absolutely safe place.
"I think Ms. Wilford wants to see me, so naturally, I can't disappoint her." Zayn smiled and uttered somewhat ambiguous words. "I'll go visit her in a moment."
"Allie’s not back yet. She’s out with some friends, so I'm afraid you won’t be able to see her." Liam reminded Zayn nicely.
"That's not necessarily true." Zayn's voice was gentle, but it gave Liam the chills.
At this moment, Liam had the illusion that Zayn already knew where Sophie and Allie were. The reason Liam was still standing there was just to stall Zayn from finding out.
Looking at his watch, Zayn once again took a deep look at the mansion behind Liam and turned to leave. "It's getting late. My apologies for imposing."
After saying that, Zayn suddenly stepped on the face of the assassin who was thrown on the ground. He flashed out a knife and slit the assassin's left wrist. In an instant, blood flowed out profusely.
"Since you don't recognize him, then I'll just have to settle it myself." Zayn clearly could have just killed the man, but he only slit one of his hands.
After the pale-faced person no longer struggled and laid motionless on the ground, Zayn once again slit the man's right wrist with speed and accuracy.
"Oops, I forgot that this hand was already incapacitated yesterday."
Just like that in front of Liam Wilford and his servants, Zayn laid waste to the assassin's hands, but no one dared to move.
Although there was only one person behind Zayn, since he dared to come like this, he must have been prepared for everything. Liam could only see the blood in front of him and his thoughts jumped to how Zayn would torment Sophie.
The man's unchanging face was truly a bit shocking. The people present held their breath as they watched the assassin’s hands get incapacitated. The man just looked like a dead dog lying on the ground and they were not sure whether he was alive or dead.
Liam finally came back to his senses and said in a stern voice, "Zayn Guggenheim! What are you doing? This is my house!"
Unfortunately, Zayn was not the slightest bit afraid. "I’m only doing this because I know this is your house."
Zayn was so nonchalant when he said it, but it made everyone who heard it scared.
Liam’s chest was heaving drastically, but he held back his anger and to everyone's surprise, he revealed a smile. "It's indeed my fault that this happened in my territory."
The more calm and collected Zayn acted, the more panicked he felt at the bottom of his heart.
Liam had no choice but to capture Lindsey, but if he touched Zayn, there was no telling how big a storm it would cause. He might not even be able to protect himself by then. Not to mention, Zayn was surrounded by capable people.
Moreover, thanks to his sister’s actions, the Wilfords incidentally made a few more enemies.
Once Zayn heard this, he probably felt that it was enough that they progressed this much in the game. He then turned and got into his car. Everyone at the mansion looked at each other, but no one dared to stop him.
It was not a good thing to have a subordinate that did not listen to his orders.
However, these were special times, so Smith staying back would be far more useful than isolating him from his inner circle.
"Contact the other side for me immediately." Liam's voice was slightly urgent as he instructed.
Zayn's tactics were ruthless. Liam did not even have much patience to wait for his subordinates and snatched over the phone. Every second that the call was still waiting to be connected was like torture to him.
"Hello." A clear and faint voice sounded, and Liam's heart instantly relaxed.
"It's me. Is everything okay over there? Anything unusual?" As soon as he spoke, he realized that his voice was tense.
"Liam?" Sophie's voice carried an unconcealed hint of joy. "Everything’s fine here. Why? Are you coming to visit me?"
When Liam heard her question, he became silent.
Sophie knew him well. Although it was only a few seconds of silence, she immediately understood the man's inner dilemma and said, "I’m just asking casually. Everything’s fine here. Allie’s also here to accompany me, so I don’t need you."
She pretended to be relaxed, but it made Liam's heart even more bitter.
Sophie had moved out of her original place and changed to a new location. For her safety, Liam did not visit her once.
Liam did not even dare to call her because he was afraid that he would not be able to stand it.
