Sophie wrapped her arms around Liam's neck. She closed her eyes and hugged him tightly. Her voice slid into Liam’s ears like a sigh. "Liam, I’m the one who should apologize."

"Do you know how scared I am?" Liam's voice was a bit muffled. "I worry every day that you would just suddenly leave me the second I’m not watching you."

Sophie simply could not say anything. Liam's tears were melting a hole in her heart. It was painful and hollow.

"But Liam, they’re innocent." She still could not accept exchanging another person's life for her own.

"Aren’t you also innocent?" Liam suddenly roared. The emotions he had suppressed at the bottom of his heart were too deep and too heavy. Once they exploded, they were uncontrollable. "Sophie, you’re only twenty-three years old. What have you done wrong? Why should they be able to do whatever they want while simply being alive is a luxury for you?"

The man in front of her tried his best to hold back, but his tears kept falling.

For the first time in her life, Sophie saw a man crying, and it was coming from the 28-year-old Liam Wilford. They had known each other for 23 years. He had protected her for 23 years and they loved each other for so many years.

"Liam..." Sophie only had time to call out his name when the pain in her chest suddenly became more intense.

She reached out to cover her chest. Her fingertips were clutching the piece of fabric, but the pain would not go away.

"Sophie!" Liam's eyes were red and the fear at the bottom of his heart overpowered all his senses for an instant.

Sophie saw the emotions in those eyes clearly. For the first time, she finally saw how scared Liam was. He had always hidden it well and never let her find out.

The pain made everything go black before her eyes. Before she completely lost consciousness, Sophie had one last thought, ‘I wish I could just die, then Liam won’t do any more wrongful things for me again.’

The hospital.

Since the first time Zayn regained consciousness, Zayn did not feel as lethargic as before and would sleep less. The wound on his back still needed time to recover, but his mental state quickly reached its peak performance.

Allie was really attentive to Zayn and had specially hired a caregiver to take care of him. Moreover, she would also make up various excuses so that she could go to the hospital to visit him.

However, Zayn still did not appreciate anything she did.

"I know you've been suspicious of me. I like you. It's true that I'm not as sincere as I seem to be with Lindsey, but I definitely didn’t hurt her either. As for taking Lindsey away from Atlantic City, I wasn’t even aware of it. My brother hid it from me."

Allie knew that her image in Zayn's eyes was already bad, but she still spared no effort in trying to paint herself in a better light.

As she said that, she handed the apple she had just peeled to Zayn.

The apple looked jagged after she peeled it and it was clear that it was her first time doing such things, but it also showed a clumsy, childish sincerity.

Her eyes were full of anticipation as she looked at Zayn.

The man's gaze finally shifted from outside to Allie's face. He looked at her, then raised his hand to take the apple from Allie.

Allie looked delighted, but the joy did not last one second before she saw Zayn raise his hand and threw the apple fiercely against the wall.

The apple smashed into the wall with great force and left an ugly mark on the white wall.

After saying this, Allie felt what she said was very touching. She was sure no one had ever said this to him before.

However, Zayn just snorted coldly. "Ms. Wilford, we’re not even close to each other, so getting your protection is just too much."

He implied that Allie had ulterior motives.

Allie was furious, but she could not do anything about it.

Zayn was truly more cold-blooded and heartless than she imagined. Allie could feel a moment of warmth in this man only by watching him interact with Lindsey.

"I want to go out for a walk," Zayn suddenly said.

He could not walk yet, so he had to rely on his wheelchair to do anything, but Allie would never agree to let Zayn leave the room.

"It's not safe outside. You’re too easily recognized and will be discovered by others." Allie was referring to Liam's people as well as Zayn's people.

Zayn did not insist. "Then let's go by the window. I need some sun."

The sun shone through the window and it looked warm.

They were on a high floor, so Allie was not afraid of others seeing him. She considered this for a moment and nodded her head in agreement.

The nurse came in and helped Zayn into the wheelchair. Zayn seemed to be very unhappy being touched by a stranger because his brow was tightly furrowed throughout.
